The board appears to be eating posts again - Emcee, your post didn't appear. Which is a loss, because you are always so profound and witty!
Still no pictures from Miscast, but Raúl was at an reception at Sardi's last night that presented the Commercial Theatre Institute's Robert Whitehead award to Dori Berinstein (she produced the ShowBusiness documentary). Lots and lots of pics! He sure cleans up well!
"Esparza for the prosecution" indeed. Maybe he relates so well to L&O that he could get a recurring role! And the hair looks a little longer, no? I like it.
Aw, he looks great! He also looked quite lovely on Monday. So lovely, in fact, that I was compelled to ask for a photo, even though I have so many that I feel silly doing that at this point.
lol. I did wish more of them had used props and things, like Kelli and Alice did for Hard Knock Life.
And I see what you're saying, but I definitely wouldn't consider Raul a performer who likes to keep vulnerability locked away. So even if that's why the song was chosen for him to sing, spilling your guts out on stage isn't really out of the ordinary for him.
It was in response to:
But at the same time, a song that taps into your life are just plain brutal and can show vulnerability that actors usually like to keep locked away. Which is why I'm sure there was a reason Raul sang "The Man that Got Away". I could see Michael singing something like "Past My Prime" from Lil' Abner.
And Michael is ALL about Rock. And skirts. So he'd love it. Actually, that could be really funny. And use all those HORRIBLE whigs he's had to where in the past.
If the choice of song had bothered or offended him, he could simply have asked to sing something else. But somehow I think even if it had he wouldn't do that - he'd approach it head on and tackle it. Face his fear. He seems to take great pride in doing that. I think that's the thing I find most endearing about him, that....valiant spirit he displays so beautifully.
I love how Tarty always looks like a fangirl in paired pictures. Even though I never had occasion to download pictures of John Tartaglia, I still had like a dozen or more because he always managed to jump into the picture with everyone I liked.
Em - do you ask to take his picture or to take a picture with him? My one and only photo was from the old days during COMPANY when someone offered to take one for me!
Thanks, em. My problem is I am usually by myself so rarely have a designated photographer along.
I actually had 20 minutes of spare time today (ah, taxes) and watched A STAR IS BORN to see how Judy sang THE MAN WHO GOT AWAY. Raul didn't copy that performance of the song but he picked up some of the best gestures including - if I am remembering correctly - the hand through the hair? Raul really did a good job - it's a quite a song.
The March issue of the Italian edition of Vanity Fair magazine has a 26 page photo portfolio of pictures by Bruce Weber, which included this delightful entry:
Rough translation (my Italian is very rusty) of his comment at the top of the pic: "To do theater in New York means to do it with the best of the best".
Elisabeth got much, much better as the run went on. By the time it opened, I was SO impressed with her work, where I had been very lukewarm toward her in the beginning.
I think Barnes and Noble sells it. Not entirely sure though. I have someone in Italy tracking down a copy for me! Though with that picture, she might be tempted to keep it for herself.
And it's not like 38 is old, he's still a youngin'.
