The United States Government Has Shut Down

Serious stuff.

It's just a game to these people. A team sport. Consequences on the lives of citizens are irrelevant to them.

It's not going to end anything soon. There might be pressure to end this prior to the busy Thanksgiving travel weekend. But anyone not getting paid now should be trying to secure other potential sources of income.

Yes. In the meantime however, unarmed immigrants and US citizens are being victimized with the use of deadly weapons. Here, in Chicago, residents and citizens are being shot and killed by masked, unidentifiable people who may or may not be ICE agents.

Meanwhile, those elected to protect us, and defend the Constitution are trading adolescent memes back and forth. According to the Vice President they are "having a good time".

Our government is completely shutdown. The commander in chief is golfing, and the secretary of war is preparing our generals to fight "the war within". The president has said that cities like Chicago should be used for military practice.

THERE IS NO TIME TO WAIT FOR MID-TERM ELECTIONS.

Begin by calling and emailing your state representatives (including senators and governor), EVERY DAY. Request IMPEACHMENT and every tactic they can think of to remove Trump and his administration from office immediately.

Please do not wait, or count on mid-term elections to solve this problem. It is already too late.

Citizens and neighbors are being gunned down without consequence or retribution. Maybe not in your neighborhoods right now, but it is certainly happening in mine. The writing is on the wall. The time to act is NOW.

Our neighbors are a married couple with two small children. Both are career employees with the U.S. Federal Government, but different agencies. They live in fear that their jobs and their incomes will be swept from underneath them, especially now that thugs in D.C. are making the decisions about their employment.

Should you know of anyone in similar circumstances, please take a moment to offer a bit of understanding and kindness.

We are all in this together.

You don't need to shout honey, very impolite and rude. Control of the House and Senate does not mean a damn thing if you can't get passed the 60-vote threshold. If it was just simple majority there would be no shutdown and just another 3-month CR to fund the government. Remember darling, when your party held control of the entire government, they wanted to get rid of the filibuster so the minority would have no rights.

Historically a clean CR like the one the House did pass was the standard which the minority party (regardless of who it was) generally accepted to support comparable legislation in the Senate.

But historically we did not have a President who:

• uniformly disregards spending bills Congress passes
• uses funding to extort college campuses and law firms to do his bidding
• makes highly questionable rescission decisions for funds Congress previously appropriated
• f*cks the economy with his unilateral tariff declarations when only Congress is given that power, and who
• failied to enforce the bi-partisan ban on TikTok that Congress passed and then subsequently negotiated its sale to one of his supporters

In short, Trump cannot be trusted to honor anything Democrats would support to fund the government and Republicans cannot be trusted to hold him accountable.

I'm not going to judge the Democrats harshly for failing to honor norms of the past when this President blasts them all to hell and almost everyone in his party and by idly as he does so.

Senate Republicans could have used the nuclear option" on the filibuster, as they have already done twice in nine months, if they truly wanted to keep the government open.

I actually don't care about that very much, since it was consensual, but I do care that Clinton lied under oath about that relationship to protect himself in a sexual harassment lawsuit. On that basis, I supported impeachment and removal at the time (which was admittedly easy because I hated him for other reasons) and I still do now (when those reasons have faded and now seem rather quaint).
