Posted: 8/25/11 at 2:22pmRobbie, I know I've seen them at Gristedes. If I get some, does that mean I'm invited? :)

Posted: 8/25/11 at 2:43pmWell it's going to hit land in the Outer Banks. I would think by the time it got up to NY it wouldn't be all THAT bad. But what do I know.

Posted: 8/25/11 at 2:44pmSo my granddad and aunt from Sea Isle City might be taking refuge with me...there house is literally on the beach. I am taking the patio furniture in, getting food (needed to anyway), buying batteries, bottled water, and stocking up on alchol. I am in one of the river towns in South Jersey so I am going to have to pay attention to the tides and flooding...the river is already high due to the recent rainfalls....but I swear I will be pissed if I lose power and miss True Blood

Posted: 8/25/11 at 2:45pmI'm surprised Bloomber isn't advising everyone to take in a Sunday matinee..

Posted: 8/25/11 at 2:55pmThey are saying it should still be a category 2 when it hits the NY area. (That's what was first in my earlier post)

Posted: 8/25/11 at 2:57pm^ That's funny. I was thinking about that. But, I have 2 parties, and probably too risky to go in because I'm sure if it is really bad, Dover will flood as will the Passaic River.

Calvin,
You were always invited to the 'party'! But forget those Steakums and there will be hell to pay!
I'm going to Bed, Bath and Beyond tonight to pick up some candle! This is all too, too exciting!

Should I be flipping out or something?
My best advice is to respect the storm. Go to the store and get anything you need (candles, lanterns, batteries, bottled water, food that doesn't need to be cooked, etc). Move anything valuable to the second floor (if you have one) or put stuff in waterproof plastic containers. Have a bag packed just in case you get the call to evacuate. Chare anything that has to be charged (iPod, e-reader, etc). But stay in the state of mind that you're just going to have a weekend at home.
I'm supposed to be moving in to college up in White Plains on Saturday, but my Monday classes have all been cancelled and we've been advised not to move in until then. I don't really know what I'm going to do yet
Hurricane Flyod hit when I was in college. Anyone living on the third floor of my dorm had to be moved because the roof leaked and we couldn't leave the dorms because the commutor lot turned into a raging river.
Does anyone know where to get Steak-Ums? My brother used to make them when we had the rare hurricane party, and I'd like to make them for my hurricane party/orgy this weekend.
My local grocery store has Steak-ums but I doubt you want me and my vajayjay at your orgy

Posted: 8/25/11 at 3:22pmCool. Though my mom's in town this weekend. Would her coming disrupt the orgy? She makes a mean cheeseball.

Posted: 8/25/11 at 3:23pmBite your tongue Matt! My little town northwest of Chicago has been hit by a near-biblical array of storms this summer, including a "Derecho" (which I had never heard of before) that left us powerless for a week and a run-of-the-mill thunderstorm that dumped unheard of quantities of rain...
#35There's a Hurricane A-Comin'!
Posted: 8/25/11 at 3:30pmI thought that too, Matt, but watching the news at noon, they were telling a whole different story. Actually made me re-think heading out to the store. I hadn't planned to.

Posted: 8/25/11 at 4:23pmEris, thank you very much, but I was being sarcastic lol. I live along a coastal evacuation route, so I'm not too worried.

Vaginas and cheeseballs? Is this a Priscilla-themed party and will someone send me the videos?
Joe - I live downtown. South of Soldier Field is Indiana, anything north of Addison is Wisconsin, and anything west of Greektown is Iowa. It is Iowa, right? Do people live there?

Posted: 8/25/11 at 4:40pmI have heard there is a "greektown" but not sure I believe it. To me it's the Loop, Chinatown and the Skyway.
#42There's a Hurricane A-Comin'!
Posted: 8/25/11 at 5:34pmThe Skyway sounds so much more fun than it is. Can you imagin my disappointment when I moved here. I couldn't wait to get on the Skyway! Then I see Hammond and Gary and realize the awful truth. BOO!!

Posted: 8/25/11 at 5:43pmI was in college in Norfolk, VA when hurricane Gloria hit. They evacuated our dorms, and so what did I do? Went down to the beach to stay with a friend. Ah, the stupidity of an 18 year old brain.

#49There's a Hurricane A-Comin'!
Posted: 8/25/11 at 10:59pmWell,I did my shopping and one of the things on my list was a six volt battery. Four stores later and no six volt battery. Every shelf was empty. Flashlights, lanterns, and batteries were cleaned out of most of the stores.
