I got the pin that's a V, a peace sign, and a bomb. I'm kind of wishing now that I also grabbed the one that had Vertigo 05 on it. Oh well!

It was still a great concert, but The Ocean really bummed me out. I was toodling around on interference when I got home last night, and looked over the setlist watch party thread. I found it rather humorous that they were all saying that the set seemed super short (at that point in the running they had omitted The Ocean) and were wondering why there was only one Boy song. Someone finally came around saying they'd done The Ocean, and suddenly that made it all okay?!?! Ummm...that didn't quite fix it being a short setlist! I just think it's kind of a raw deal that they took out NYD and didn't replace it w/ anything! Come on boys! I know you're getting to the end of the leg, and it was the first show in Boston (and the first shows are typically on the lean side, but really!!!)

Don't get me wrong, I still had a blast! They boys seemed in top form (I don't know what those interferencers were talking about, the crowd seemed really into it to me!) and I got to hear a bunch of classics...SBS and Pride were great! I think I'd be really pissed if I weren't going to the shows in October and this was my ONLY chance to see them.

Mabel, I didn't realize that you were actually going to U2 yesterday! Sounds like you had a great time. It does seem like quite a short setlist - do they play each song just like on the CDs, or do they stretch them out to ten minutes apiece with all sorts of weird interludes and guitar solos - I have seen some bands do that! Hope you didn't feel shortchanged anyway. What was the running time?

Yet another story that makes me green with envy. I may have to stop clicking on this thread!

Jezebel, it was great fun seeing my first full fledged U2 concert, and it was great to see them w/ a friend who I haven't seen in years who's a die-hard fan!

Some songs sounded a lot like they do on the albums, while others are shaken up quite a bit. Elevation had this totally slowed down beginning that was really different, and Bullet the Blue Sky had snippets of several other songs including The Hands that Built America and even a line or two from Please (which I don't think they'd really done at other shows). Actually, they're really big on adding snippets of other songs. They added some of Stories for Boys to Vertigo and The Beatles Blackbird to Beautiful Day...what else? Oh, Send in the Clowns and I Can See for Miles to Electric Co. And when they do Bad, they usually add some of The Rolling Stones Ruby Tuesday. Oh, and Bono counted off in Gaelic to start Vertigo, instead of Spanish!

They were really on, and the stage was AMAZING! The lights were simply fab! I wasn't really execting the light curtains they use to be so great, and I think we had the perfect view of them (from across the arena).

I suppose it does go without saying that they were amazing -it's U2, after all! How was Bono's voice holding up? I heard somewhere that sometimes it can sound strained. He really gives it his all every time, so it wouldn't surprise me. The set list sounds fantastic, and I can't wait to see it! (Even if it is only on the inevitable DVD!) re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

And I'm glad that the lights and stage looked great - I was hoping it would be spectacular like their previous tours!

Oh and thanks for showing me how to add smiley faces - I suppose I really should have read the guidlines! re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

It's always nice to be there with someone else who's a big fan.

Mabel, I'm SO glad you had a good time--semi gypped-setlist and all!! It's pretty hard to not have a good time seeing them live, but I would have been like, "wait, they're coming back out" too, I imagine. I also love how they always veer off into other songs and come back.

Love that he counted off in Gaelic!!

Anyway, haven't been on much lately, but so glad you had fun and loved the pics of you and Elphie in the city....(heLOOOO Crudup!!) Welcome back Tiff! (Ellie, I agree....Bono and Larry would have been yummy, but what about Larry and Edge? Mmmmmm re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates! )

I still like the idea of a Bono - Larry combo. re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

I downloaded my show and I love it! It's so much more fun to listen to the shows that you actually attended. It's pretty good quality, too, so if anyone wants me to pass it along, let me know!

Just back from the dentist...what fun!

Elphie, count me on your MSG show. I'm going to drop an email to the guy who'd promised me a copy of my show this weekend, so I'll send that along when I get it.

Groupie, it was definitely a blast. Though, on the way to the dentsist I was listening to the Red Rocks concert, and couldn't help but get a little bummed that I didn't hear An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart. I rather like them, and would much rather have heard that than The Ocean. It was such a rally killer! The whole arena had been up on its feet for the first several songs, and it seemed like bunches took that opportunity to chill out and sit down for a few...er, minute and a half!

Oh and Bono-Larry/Larry-Edge...oh hell, any combo=*swoon* Groupie, I think you may have to bring back your Bono-Gallagher pic!!! Haha!

Later!

Mabel, I was planning on sending it to you anyway; I definitely owe you some cds! I don't need a copy of Boston, thanks though.

Sorry An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart wasn't on your setlist. I got to hear them but they're not really favotites of mine and weren't all that impressive to me. It would be lovely if we could just make up our own setlists and tell the band to play those. re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

Hooray! I'm glad you had a fab time, Mabs! (Was there ever any doubt?) Pity there was no Bad, Gloria or An Cat Dubh, but hey, you have two more chances, right? Maybe if we write to Bono and pitch Elphie's idea about making up our own setlists....*sigh*...

How did you find Kings of Leon?

Oh, in a perfect world...I don't know where I would even begin if could make my own setlist.

I certainly don't love An Cat/ItH, but I rather like the "yo ho ho ho" bit (or whatever the hell it is) in ACD. I think I have a soft spot for song w/ nonsensical "la la la" type bits!

Have any of you seen U2 on their earlier tours? How do they compare?

I'm pretty sure none of us have.
I've seen dvds, though, so I can compare to those (although it's not the same as being there). I really love the album HTDAAB, so I think this is a great tour because they've got some amazing new songs. They seem to still have a ton of energy, too. I love all the special effects on this tour, although some of their other ones are pretty amazing in that department (I think Popmart and ZooTV were, although I'm not as crazy about the albums that those tours were promoting).

I've never seen them live, but that will be rectified in October. MSG watch out! I've seen the Slane Castle DVD, and the Boston one, if they count.

This was my first real concert. I've seen the Slane DVD from Elevation, ZooTV Sydney, and PopMart Mexico...I believe Groupie saw them on ZooTV.

I loved the show for this tour...I guess it's like the middle ground between big spectacular (ZooTV/PopMart) and really stripped down (Elevation). Totally worked for me! re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

I suppose this tour is a great place to start, then. Although I do like the big OTT extravaganzas of the PopMart and ZooTV tours. But I'll take what I can get!

Howdy ladies. Sorry for my absence. I know you missed me a lot so I thought I'd pop in. Even though I'b sdill sig ahnd cad ennunciade or dalk well. Id hurds do swallow, and dad's nod good ad all.

And sorry for my rudeness: Welcome, Jezebel! I don't think we've been acquainted yet. I was in...Venice, actually, on the day you joined. Make yourself at home on here!

Seattle 2 was the first show I'd seen live, although I'd seen parts of the other DVDs before. Mabs and I are seeing them twice at MSG in October though, and Ellie's seeing them too. (But we don't care about that.)

Did you say what city you're in, Jez? If you're not in NYC, you might have a chance with day-of tickets being released at the B.O. or Ticketmaster.

Make that if you're not in NYC or Boston!!! I think Boston's released like 16 tix total (doesn't sound like they're going to drop any for tonight or tomorrow). Crazy!

I really can't wait until October now! Yay for close behind the stage seats!!!

ETA: Feel better Tiff!!!

Yay! And technically we're not BEHIND the stage per se. Well, we are, but we're at an angle. I don't know if those curtains would kinda suck if we were directly behind them. But I think our angle's really kick-ass, considering the price we paid. Did I tell you those tickets are presently under my pillow?

I'm so, so, SO glad you got them Tiff! Just don't drool all over them and make the ink come off!!!

I don't think the light curtains will be all that bad. We shall see. re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

I'm currently obsessively checking my email, because I had the faintest glimmer of a chance at getting a pair for tonight (kind of side stage on Edge's side)...not looking so promising at the moment. The guy read my last e-mail over an hour ago, and I've yet to hear anything back...I wish he'd just send me an email saying "no dice" so I don't have to feel like such a pathetic loser staring at my inbox!

I've had ZERO luck w/ radio contests...the closest we got was my mom was caller #1 yesterday (looking for #9...guess that's better than being #8!!!)...every single other time it's been busy (and I've tried MANY!) At least the people that won today seemed super psyched. A woman this afternoon sounded like she was crying!

But...but...Mabel, you're already seeing them thrice!!
In my eyes, you would be an undeserving and greedy winner... they should go to someone who truly deserves them. Like me. re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

Oh, and Jezebel - stay away from Tiff. She's dangerous. That's all I'll say.

Oh Ellie, you don't seem to grasp what an addiction seeing the lads can be...Tiff, Ellie, Groupie, care to vouch for me?!?! And I would have been bringing a newbie, so that's got to count for something, right?!?! Just you wait until October, you'll be scrambling for Hartford tix like some some sort of crack whore!

Besides, it's not like I'm like some of those crazies that go in the double digits each tour! I was potentially shooting for twice on each leg...A little nutty, yes, but I still maintain that it's a far cry from the insanity that some others indulge in! re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

It's true! The fella who was standing next to me was seeing it for the 11th or 12th time! (His pics are at www.whistlerdev.com. Nice fella.) And even HE is on the low side! Can you imagine that there are fans that have been around since the Boy days? Didn't Namo say a while back that he's a loooong-time fan?

And I think that bringing virgins counts for something, for sure! I brought a virgin to Seattle, and made her into a life-long fan! (Actually, even more aggravating, I think she's more a fan because the concert was cool as opposed to actually seeing the boys in a new light.)
