My biggest issue on the subway, is the bands. I was riding one semi late in the evening and about 10 guys were having a rap-off...and none of them could rap. It finally took a brave soul to tell them to shut up.
I also have seen a nose picker take his new found treasure and rub it up and down on one of the poles that people hang on to.
Also, if anyone started doing a dance routine like "Santa Fe" on the subway with me on it, they would be nursing a black eye.

Hah...Everyone here is such a bitter old man. It's awesome. My biggest pet peeve is people with headphones BLASTING music, epecially when it is around their neck...why even wear headphones if they aren't in your ear? And do we ALL need to hear your iPod playlist? You are just gonna go deaf and have to turn it up even louder. Also...people who insist on trying out ALL their possible cell phone rings at full volume.
As far as backpacks go, the Toronto subway system has been smart recently to announce, "Please take off your backpacks while entering a train".

shiksa, when I was in London, a friend and I were hanging outside of a...certain establishment...where a panhandler was sitting on the corner, and a woman came by and gave him a sandwich. After she left, the guy turned to us and said: "I didn't want a f***ing sandwich. I wanted money." We gave him one of our joints, and he liked that, though.

People that get on the train, but don't move to the center of the car. Then they get mad because people behind them are pushing to get in.
People that are on the stairs when the train pulls in and push everyone out of the way in order to try and make a train they can't make.

People who are only going 2-3 stops during rush hour, but still sit down in the center of the train so they have to get up and shove past everyone to exit in time. If you're going 2 stops, stand by the goddamn door.
tagiunagi, I hate that groups of tourists manage to spread out across every ticket machine in the station, all talking to each other and trying to figure it out together. For god's sake, stay on the same machine so the rest of us can get on with our lives while you attempt to multiple 6 kids and 3 parents by $2 each way.
siamese dream, hah, that guy. If he's so hard up and needs money for dinner, he shouldn't have bought those brand-new $120 shoes.
And why is it that only the people with the most obnoxious ringtones seem to have service on the train?

Perhaps it is Jane2 but there are agencies that my hard earned taxes and voluntary donations go to to aid people in circumstances like this.
Panhandling on the Subway is A) against the law and B) when it exploits someones disability for money, I would say a bit despicable.

I remember them!
I think the musicians are pretty annoying. Also, those who feel the need to blast their music because they can't hear it over the noise of the train.

SNAFU, please name some of the agencies that your hard earned money goes to in order to help these people. Also, post how much help and/or money they get. No, don't bother wasting your time. If you think that the help that these people get from agencies is enough for them to live a decent life, or even to live a really meager life, then you're naive. I speak from experience with my sister.

One of my biggest pleasures is forcefully stating "LET THEM OFF THE TRAIN FIRST" as I'm getting off a train and others are trying to scurry rat-like into the train. It is invariably accompanied by a decent shove with my shoulder. I hope they fall to the ground, but don't care enough to exert the energy to turn around and see.
I understand the aversion to the bands. My rule is, if I'm a better singer, you get nothing. There is, however, a troupe of 4 people (3 men, 1 woman) who like to sing THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT. I enjoy them and give them money.
BUT...that blind man with the accordian. AGAIN I was accosted by him. He's a terrible accordianist and I truly don't believe that he's blind. He PURPOSEFULLY walks into me every single f*cking time we encounter each other.
Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses?
