You all have such excellent taste in show music, so I was wondering what else you listen to. I have a weird fondness for 60s or 70s folk music despite being far too young to remember it.

Opera (mainly Der Zauberflöte, Porgy and Bess, and Die Dreigroschenoper), Alt-J, Judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, Queen, The Beatles, Marina and the Diamonds' first album, Lana Del Rey's first album, etc.

It is funny how little music plays a role in my life. I don't buy CDs, have an iPod or like wearing earbuds. My hearing is already compromised with complete tinnitus in one ear.

The few times I do put on music it tends to be Gershwin and other more classical composers.
Those Blocked: SueStorm. N2N Nate. Good riddence to stupid! Rad-Z, shill begone!

Almost anything other than. Obviously, I didn't learn anything I know from musicals, SmokeyLady.

My latest jags: The National. David Bowie. Robyn. Oil Boom. The Dead Boys, "Young, Loud & Snotty" over and over again. Theophilis London. And of course, The New Pornographers, whom I will finally be seeing live this week.

Ooh, I hope you like the New Pornographers live. I saw them at Treasure Island and thought they were excellent live, though their music isn't my personal favorite.

Well I was at Treasure Island, which features plenty of young, wild, and free characters, and believe me, I don't want to be like them, aside from a really nice man I met seeing Alt-J live (they were amazing) who I got to speak to for quite some time while we were waiting for them to start performing.

Oh right, sorry, forgot most people here are from New York. Treasure Island Music Festival is an alternative/indie music festival taking place on Treasure Island in San Francisco in September or October each year. This year I went because I love Alt-J and like Banks and St. Lucia, who were all playing there.

How does anyone answer this question without giving an endless laundry list of artists? Aren't we in the post-genre era? Most people no longer listen to just [insert genre]. I'll just list the last 5 artists I listened to on Spotify:

Showing my age, the three Sirius channels I listen to are Broadway, Classic Rock, and the 70s. Broadway is default, but I switched whenever I hear the phrase, "Broadway Names With...", or anything by Kerry Butler.

I really enjoy the variety of the 70s channel. You can hear Led Zeppelin followed by ABBA followed by a novelty song followed by disco, etc.

I listen to whatever strikes my fancy at any given time. Pink Floyd's WISH YOU WERE HERE has been getting a lot play lately, as has a more recent obsession, the work of John Coltrane -- working out while listening to A LOVE SUPREME is a real religious experience.

Beethoven, John Adams, Frank Zappa, all kinds of stuff. I don't know what I'm going to do when my ipod dies.

I'm pretty diverse as well, and it has a lot to do with my mood. Interestingly enough, I learn about newer music through my students.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I'm pretty diverse, with a HUGE music library that I have bought, begged and borrowed from friends and acquaintances.

My current obsession is The Seatbelts, an international jazz-fusion group assembled by Japanese composer-producer Yoko Kanno. With lyrics recorded in English, French, Japanes and Hindi from track to track, they play jazz, folk, blues, hard rock and other genres, spinning seamlessly from one to another.

I typically listen to the following Sirius XM stations: On Broadway, Seriously Sinatra, The Coffee House, The Bridge and Velvet.

Patsy Cline, Rosanne Cash, Wynonna, Brandy Carlile, Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Dixie Chicks, Bonnie Raitt, KD Lang and Margo's Corner - Ty Tyrfu Sessions Vol. 1 get repeated play on my IPhone.

Recently I've been listening to a lot of Jay Brannan- always been a fan, but his new album is terrific. And I'm finally seeing him live in a few weeks!
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

A lot of different genres and artists. The Beatles, Def Leppard, Queen, Arcade Fire, The Killers, Lady Gaga, Janis Joplin, MGMT, Adele, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Tegan and Sara, Guns n Roses, The Black Keys, Cher....
