Since all the other thread are becoming about who got snubbed worst, I decided to create one to complain about my love, Cate Blanchett. How did she not win the Oscar for Elizabeth??!!
Julianne Moore, every time.
She didn't win because she wasn't American, wasn't Hollywood royalty, and wasn't in a movie being given a 100 million dollar Oscar campaign by Harvey Weinstein.
Naomi Watts should have been nominated for MULHOLLAND DRIVE -
Ellen Burstyn for Requeim for a Dream. One of the most amazing performances I've ever seen on film.
Miles better than Julia Roberts...
And I thought Meryl Streep was robbed of a nom and potential win for The Hours.
Ellen Burstyn for Requeim for a Dream.
No doubt.
I find Julia Roberts unwatchable.

Not sure I consider it a snub, because I really did like Sally Field in NORMA RAE, but it still breaks my heart a little bit that Bette didn't get honored for THE ROSE.
Cate Blanchett, Lynn Redgrave (supporting), Ellen Burstyn and Bjork have all been criminally snubbed in recent years.

Burstyn's going to be in another Aronofsky flick next year (though in a supporting role), so we'll see how it goes. :)

Angela Bassett in What's Love Got To Do With It?

As for nominees...

Jennifer Aniston, The Good Girl
Stockard Channing, The Business of Strangers
Tilda Swinton, The Deep End
Naomi Watts, Mulholland Drive
Gillian Anderson, The House of Mirth

making it ineligible for Academy recognition.
Darn it! Thanks, MEF.
No problem.
Adding Jill Clayburgh (An Unmarried Woman) to my list.

Miranda Richardson continually gets overlooked for her excellent work.
Mary Tyler Moore was robbed a win for "Ordinary People". I like Sissy Spacek in "Coal Miner's Daughter" but MTM gave a more nuanced performance.
Gotham-
I thought that Richardson was AMAZING in Spider. I also agree with you about Moore.
And what about Judy Holliday over (depending on who you ask) Bette Davis and Gloria Swanson? Davis would have been my choice.

Give me Bette Davis or Anne Baxter any day over Judy. Frankly, give me Eleanor Parker over Judy.
Every time I watch Eyes Wide Shut, I am surprised Nicole Kidman didn't get nominated. My God, she's good in that.
She certainly is. I would have nominated her for supporting actress.

It's hard to believe that SUNSET and EVE were the same year - what a combo! I'd have a VERY hard time choosing between them.
Perhaps a tie - you know, like Hepburn and Streisand - ugh.

That was one of the best films of the year, easily. Too bad everyone forgot it.

I think another happened in 1997. Helen Hunt won over the better performances of Judi Dench in "Mrs. Brown" and Kate Winslet in "Titanic".
Judi Dench is too classy of a lady, so I'll say it for her, "Sod off, Helen Hunt."
