I caught the second half of it this morning on TCM! God, what a great movie! I remember seeing this as a kid and thinking that all movies should be that good.
And how about Cagney, huh? What a performance!
What a unique dancer James Cagney is!
Adorable!
Chills.
"my mother thanks you, my father thanks you, my sister thanks you, and I thank you."
Awww - I love it.
Can't wait to finish it today. :)
Happy 4th All!
What about those young hepcats near the end of the picture? "Jeepers creepers....."
I'd bet they're all dead now.
My Fourth of July tradition is listening to both the OBC and revival recordings of 1776. "He plays the violin..."
I've got that DVD on the shelf and have to this day never seen it.
I must do that.
Blythe Danner, right?
I do love Yankee Doodle Dandy...too bad so much of it is fiction! It's definately a "rosy" version of George's life!
On the other hand, 1776 is so accurate it's scary! I had the PBS show "Liberty" on yesterday, and was shocked to hear them read a letter from John Adams where he was describing his vision of 4th of July (just like "Is anybody there?") and he used the phrase "ravishing light and glory"....which made it's way into the lyrics of the show! Gotta love when you can use the character's actual words!
