Come on, people. Sound bites taken "literally" out of context can not only do damage, but can make the pearl clutchers look foolish.

This time, it's the reaction that has my jaw dropping, not the statement.

Wow. We're quoting Jennifer Palmieri now. Hope that hook didn't hurt too much when they removed it, Besty.

It would be unreasonable to expect that a junior representative from a tiny state like Vermont (well before media got fragmented and democratized in the age of social media) would have as much visibility as the First Lady at that time. Of course Clinton should be celebrated for her bold, forward-thinking leadership on healthcare, but to denigrate Sanders' strong support for her healthcare initiative as not being there is disingenuous. And that spin from Palmieri is just embarrassing. So, he was standing behind her in the video, therefor his contribution at the time is non-existent and can be ignored? What about the photograph? The one containing her handwritten note to him thanking him for all his work on healthcare? In that one they're actually seated side-by-side. Did Palmieri offer any symbolic interpretation about where their bodies were physically located in relation to each other in that image?

Again, there are legitimate things I think she can - and has continued to hammer him on: his lack of support for the auto-bailout (even though, this is a more nuanced one) and his sometimes spotty record on gun control. But, this was total bull**** and just feeds the kinds of perceptions about her character that become especially worrying in a general election. She's got so much going for her, I just hope she can keep her foot out of her mouth for the rest of the campaign season.

Bernie has no HIV/AIDS platform on his website? Is this true?

^ Interesting. I wonder if an HIV/AIDS platform really matters to even a small minority of voters, but this is a good example of Hillary being able to say she showed leadership while Bernie was silent.



I only caught a little of tonight's Town Hall, but I gotta say, I think Hillary is a lot better at this format than Bernie. Bernie's gotten a lot stronger, but he's not on Hillary's level here. Despite her modesty about her political skill, I think she's actually a very skilled campaigner. I know this is all surface stuff - but in an election it matters. When a voter asks her a question, she often responds to it in a very personal and direct way - showing empathy for the person - before pivoting to the larger themes that question evokes. By contrast, I think Bernie too often (though not always) pivots too quickly to the broader general themes, which can read as being somewhat dismissive of that individual voter's personal narrative. I'm not saying he is dismissive; I'm just talking about how it may read.



Don't get me wrong, Hillary is guilty of doing this sometimes, too. Like when the young PR exec asked her how she would invest in poor communities affected by gang violence and she responded with a long spiel on gun control and didn't really address the fundamental premise of the voter's question at all. Still, more often than not, she seems to get this format right.



And, frankly, I'm kind of sick of the questions about her supposed lack of campaigning skill. Look, I love Bernie, too, but when was the last time a moderator or voter asked him about his blustery speaking style or his reliance on platitudes? The idea that Hillary isn't an effective and skilled campaigner is so stale.

Labor Secretary Perez for Clinton VP? All kinds of yes, please.

I don't think HRC's priority with her VP choice would be bolstering her liberal bona fides, especially having drifted fairly left through the primary process. Also, whoever she chooses needs to be able to hold their own in a debate against the GOP VP choice, and that may be Christie. I'd much prefer Castro, Warren, or Booker as her VP.

booker brings nothing to the table and is all liabilities as evidenced by her ease at getting him to attack bernie by threatening to leak his dl status. plus he's a northern liberal. she'll be looking to broaden her appeal. he doesn't do that.

Hillary needs to solidify the left wing of the party and draw in the younger voters and union voters who seem to have succumbed to the Sanders cult of personality. She needs to draw those voters back while at the same time, pivoting toward the middle for the general election. Warren will not be her VP, but Perez is Warren-approved, allowing her cover when she endorses Hillary. Perez is a great speaker and likely to be able to effectively parry against a Christie bully-attack. Perez appeals to Hispanic and Black voters because of his background and his accomplishments on issues that affect their daily lives. He's a do-er, not just a talker, just like Hillary. Plus, Hillary apparently likes him a lot as a person, and he can be her Biden in that regard. Even if he's not the VP pick, he needs to be given a prominent role in the campaign.

I think it's safe to suggest that the four Democrats considered most loathsome in the US by the GOP are Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Bill Clinton in no particular order. I'm also going to go out on a limb and suggest that as POTUS Hillary will be forced to the right of Obama. Perhaps, it's not a popular opinion.

A response to Bernie's late-in-the-race AIDS platform from Phill Wilson, longtime head of the Black AIDS Institute:

This whole stupid brain fart on the AIDS thing, while certainly regrettable and indeed stupid, diverts attention from the issues and trashes HC again. So what's new? While I can understand the situation and sympathize I wonder how many of us in that situation have fallen into the "Brian Williams Implied Memory Syndrome"? Perhaps HC wanted to remember a nicer NR? Maybe she was remembering that Elizabeth Taylor and Doris Day were trying to get Ronnie to say AIDS back then? That being said, it was a stupid misspeak, acknowledge that and move on...



Now, I just had to pop in to say that; I'm back to volunteering and phone calls for HC. Vote Tuesday!!! Be back when things settle down some (soon I hope!)

Well the difference would be that Sanders doesn't have the history of fighting against AIDS that Clinton does, to back up an apology.
