I was just thinking that next season could be a big one for musical revivals. So far, we definitely have:
-- A Chorus Line
-- Les Miserables
-- Company (Doyle)
-- 110 In the Shade (with Audra McDonald at Roundabout)
And other possibilities include:
-- The Wiz (if Des McAnuff's La Jolla production is well-received)
-- Pal Joey (if they can work it out with Hugh Jackman's schedule)
-- West Side Story (plans were announced for a 50th Anniversary revival a while back to be helmed by Jerry Mitchell; there hasn't been any word lately, but hopefully it'll happen sometime in 2007 -- perhaps not until the 2007-2008 season, though).
-- A Little Night Music (no firm plans, but lots of talk and rumors)
Several of these sound very promising.

Is it just me or do the new seasons for both non-profit organizations sound very blah? Roundabout isn't doing anything interesting (save 110 in the Shade) and neither is MTC. Anyone share this opinion?
I think next year's line-up looks great on paper. Hopefully, they will all turn out to be great production. As long as a few of them meet expectations, then it should be a very exciting awards race next year. You have revivals of the #3 and #4 longest running shows in BWay history, at least one and maybe two Sondheim shows, possibly Hugh Jackman, plus 4-time Tony winner Audra McDonald back in a musical.

Well, Greg Kotis's Pig Farm with Denis O'Hare, Katie Fineran and Logan Marshall-Green looks promising at Roundabout this summer (though it's Off-Broadway). And MTC has new plays by Charles Busch and Paul Rudnick (which probably won't be brilliant, but should be funny) as well as the play "Blackbird" which got raves in London last year.
Actually, the Best Actress in a Musical Tony race is already shaping up to be fascinating. We have:
Audra...4 time winner, all supporting. You KNOW they're dying to give her a leading Tony. She'll act the hell out of it and sing the definitive versions of those sings (I simply cannot wait to hear Simple Little Things)
Charlotte...Been around forever and is beloved. They tried to make her a star with Charity, but it didn't work out and she went back to being 'second'. One could argue that that kind of professional disappointment is exactly what Cassie is about and could inspire a spectacular performance.
Ashley Brown (or whomoever is cast) in POPPINS. Let's face it...all she has to do is show up and get through an iconic, marathon role and she'll get a nom.
Should NIGHT MUSIC and WIZ pan out, it could get even crazier. Mama can't wait.
Don't forget The Apple Tree is also rumored for a revival...

Let's start handicapping the Best Set Tony for the 2008 season on the next thread....

Wasn't there something going around about LCT doing a South Pacific revial?
The South Pacific revival will be in the 2007-2008 season.
Finally a season with a plethora of what should be good musical revivals.
Musical wise - Last year had 3 mediocore/decent/good revivals. This year, 2 raved about revivals, and one not received well.
Next year should be GREAT!
Yes, you're right. I just found the article:

Oh and I forgot the Kennedy Center production of Mame, that I suppose would have a chance of transferring if the reviews are good. That would add Baranski to the Best Actress race.
There's also whoever ends up playing the lead in Legally Blonde. Assuming she and the show are decent, she'll probably end up with a nomination.
Plus there's Jenn Colella for The Times Are A-Changin, whoever plays Vera in the Pal Joey revival, Dorothy in the Wiz revival, and whoever the lead girl is in that Princesses monstrosity, if it ever makes it here.

I haven't heard any serious talk of a Pippin revival, but it wouldn't surprise me if it ends up coming back sometime in the next few seasons.

And while I still find it hard to believe that any commercial producer would try and mount a full-scale revival of The Apple Tree, if it does happen, then Kristin Chenoweth will be a major contender for the Best Actress Tony.

Roundabout would be smart to pick up Apple Tree.

Or MTC (which has been contemplating putting a small-ish musical in the Biltmore for sometime). That's the only way a revival of Apple Tree would make any sense.
I went a few months ago to a reading of Kotis's "Pig Farm" at SCR. I HATED it...an unfunny piece which cruelly pokes fun at "hicks" and "federal agents". The humor was cruel AND unfunny.
As for revivals, I would not discount the possibility of the Meunier Chocolate factory production of "Sunday In The Park With George" coming to Broadway. That production is transferring to the West End in the fall. From seeing the excitement over "Sweeney" and "Company", it is safe to say that critics and audiences will gladly welcome another British Sondheim "Revisal".
I wouldn't count, however, on the West End Evita coming over...

I'd love it if that Sunday in the Park production would make it over. Maybe one of the not-for-profits will pick it up.

I am so excited about Company, I can't wait to see what Doyle has done with it.
Will Les Miz be elgible for the best revival tony?
Yeah its been three years since the original production closed. I believe thats the only requirement?
Isn't the 50th Anniversary revival of MY FAIR LADY still in the works for next season as well?

Oh right. I know that Trevor Nunn has been in talks about bringing his production of MY FAIR LADY to Broadway (and Jonathan Pryce mentioned something about it in a recent interview). I guess that's another one to add to the "Possibilities" list.
