Cry-Baby of all shows can go either way. It's a show that's trying for big commercial success a la Hairspray. It could fail or take off. I think Xanadu might be forgotten, but hell, what do i know?

Well the Cry-Baby photographs and the choreography ( from recent reviews) already look better than the Off-Broadway production of IN THE HEIGHTS that I saw. Sorry, i wasnt a fan. I don't understand all the fuss for this show.

Cry Baby already opened at La Jolla. The reviews were 100 times better than Young Frankenstein.
There is no way in hell Young Frankenstein will be nominated for Best Musical.
I don't know Neddy. Wicked got bad reviews and got a nom. YF is selling well because of the strike, so I think it will build up a nice following. It is a great show for tourists.

I think Wicked got more Mixed reviews than Negative.
And they didn't hate the creatives of Wicked nearly as much as they hate Brooks.
I think that this season has enough strong shows to fill up the 4 Best Musical spots without Young Frankenstein.
Road Producers like Brooks...
A Catered Affair
The Little Mermaid or Xanadu
In The Heights
Cry-Baby

I'm pretty sure, YOung Frankie will get the nod for best musical, whether it'll win is a different question. But given that In the Heights is still to be evaluated whether it'll be able to repeat its Off Broadway success, A Catered Affair is still to come, as is Cry Baby and Xanadu may have gotten good reviews, it's incredibly fluffy though (far more than Hairspray). And Mermaid's reviews on the road wheren't any better than YF's. So I actually don't see YF's chances to be that unlikely.
Anyhow I do see good chances for Fitzgerald to win his featured actor trophy, he's doing a fabulous job I must say.

Yes, except Road Producers are not on the Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee is made up of a very small group of people. If road producers were on it you could be that Legally Blonde would have been nominated (and would have won) Best Musical.

Having just gotten back from "Cry Baby" at La Jolla and seen "YF", I'd say Cry Baby has a huge edge over YF.
While YF has the $$$ and a fabulous cast (Andrea Martin should win something), the actual musical, Cry Baby itself, is a much better show and should edge out YF. Cry Baby is already a great show, and has time to improve before opening. YF is just one giant spectacle and not a great show.
Is there any chance that a catered affair could not get a tony nod? I know very little about it. Is it possible that it could flop or something? I somehow think if Xanadu continues to run by tony time it will no be forgotten. And wasnt there at one time 5 musicals nominated (or am i just halucinating)
MY prediction as of now
In The Heights
Cry Baby
A Cattered Affair (if its a good show, I have no clue)
YF/Mermaid/Xanadu

Little Mermaid hasn't got any good word of mouth, other than that Sierra Boggess and Sherie Rene Scott sing well in their respective roles.
Young Frankenstein needs to stopped being compared to The Producers, because when I read reviews, I see a lot of that. In and of itself, I don't know how strong of a show it is. I'm planning on seeing it in December.
I think Xanadu will be nominated though. Critics and fans seem to like it.
I think other nominations are In the Heights and Cry Baby. I've only heard good things about both.

I'll go with:
Cry Baby (mostly positive notices from out of town)
In The Heights (very well-received overall)
Little Mermaid (depending on the the reviews)
Passing Strange (a small show, yet it probably will have received the strongest slate of reviews of any new musical -- The Times, Variety, The AP, New York Mag et al loved it -- which probably will be enough for the nominating committee to give it one of the four slots)
Dark Horse: Xanadu (fun, campy and silly, but I'm guessing it may be considered too light-weight to grab one of the four slots)
I'm predicting that because of the anti-Mel backlash, overhype and blisteringly negative reviews, YF will be snubbed for Best Musical -- but will get nods in some of the design and acting categories
As far as A Catered Affair, I keep hearing mixed to surprisingly negative word of mouth from people I know from out of town who've seen it, leading me to guess that it'll be overlooked (though Prince will get a nod)
Just saw Mauritius and Young Frankenstein over Thanksgiving week and I think Christopher McDonald and Andrea Martin should get nods for Best Featured Actor and Actress in a musical. I also think Bobby Cannavale and F. Murray Abraham should get Best Featured Actor nominations and Alison Pill a Best Actress nomination.
I am certain Roger Bart will be nominated. He was fantastic.
I would love to see bart and scott to walk away with tonys (im sure theyll get nods at least) Im really hoping that xanadu is still thought about heavily for a nod once everything else opens
Having seen both, I would say Cry-Baby is easily a much stronger choice for best musical over Young Frankenstein. Especially when you consider that (hopefully) it's only going to get better in Broadway previews. Xanadu would be a fun nomination as it does exactly what it wants to do on it's own scale so well (much like Urinetown did). It will be interesting to see critical reaction to Little Mermaid now that it's a hit with the public (I walked by that theater as people were leaving a few times the week before the strike and people definitely seemed to love it). Even if Mermaid gets bumped for a best musical nomination, based on basically every review, Sierra Boggess and Sherie should get nominations. It could be fun if there isn't a really strong "established actress" performance this year and they give the tony to newcomer Sierra like they did with Marissa over Bernadette.

A Catered Affair- Based on the preview videos, it really doesn't lok terribly great, with it's dim lighting and rather bland songs.
In the Heights- Either everyone will love it, it'll be hated, or it will be nominated because it's new.
Mermaid-Highly likely that this will win. Much better than any other Disney on Broadway show so far.
Young Frankenstein- This is probably the Spamalot of this year, and if they like a Spamalot musical, Young Frankenstein could get nominated.
Xanadu- Dark Horse, but is possible.
Cry Baby- The hairspray of the category, this also loks highly likely. It loks very similar to Hairspray, and maybe Grease.
Ok, so my new prediction of nominations are:
Little Mermaid
Cry Baby
Xanadu or A Catered affair
Young Frankenstein or In the Heights

you're all wrong.
the nominees will be:
In the Heights
A Catered Affair
Passing Strange
Glory Days
it's the year of the innovative musicals.
In the Heights will win.

I would have bet on A Catered Affair's being nominated several months ago. Now, I'm not so sure. Word of mouth has not been encouraging. I'm seeing it on May 3rd, but people who've seen it whom I know personally have given it a thumbs down -- say that there is no score to speak of and that it's just downright dull and somewhat depressing. Also, Harvey's appearance on Theater Talk last week did the show no big favors, ditto the excerpts they showed. I sounds to me that it's about a group of ho-hum people who do not engage the audience's interest or empathy. And when people get cushion conscious for a 90-minute show, something's got to be wrong someplace.
Nominations:
In the Heights
Passing Strange
Xanadu
A Catered Affair (/Glory Days/ Cry Baby? not sure)
In the Heights takes it.
I think it's possible for Xanadu to be nominated. I wouldn't exclude it from the others especially because it's one of the better reviewed shows of the season.

Given the reviews, "Xanadu" definitely gets a nomination-
My guess:
"PS"
"Xanadu"
"In The Heights"
"Catered Affair"
"In The Heights" wins.
I think it'll go like this
Passing Strange
Xanadu
Young Frankenstein (Had to throw that in there)
In The Heights
If the reviews for A Catered Affair aren't good I can actually see Young Frankenstein getting one of the nominations, along with PS, ItH, and Xanadu.
A Catered Affair
In The Heights
Passing Strange
Xanadu
