The lack of CATCH ME is not surprising, but completely sad for me personally. Ah, well.

Congrats to all nominees. A SMALL FIRE over STARCATCHER in best play though? SERIOUSLY?

I am shocked they snubbed both Joe Mantello and Ellen Barkin from The Normal Heart. That's beyond ridiculous.

I'm sure both of them will be nominated for Tonys on Tuesday, if not considered the frontrunners to win in their categories.

They weren't snubbed, adam. The Normal Heart received the ensemble award, which means no individuals from the production can be nominated in other categories.

And no John Benjamin Hickey for NORMAL HEART either - VERY bizarre...

"Outstanding Ensemble Performances

This year the nominators chose to bestow special ensemble awards for acting to the casts of two shows. Therefore, individual cast members for these shows were not eligible for acting awards in the competitive categories.

In Transit
The Normal Heart"

If I remember correctly, a lot of folks here were calling for an ensemble award for Normal Heart.

Overall, I am quite happy with the nominations. Much more realistic picture than what we have seen so far.

I still think Mantello, Barkin and Hickey may all walk away with the Tonys (with Light being very strong competition for Barkin).

I think Barkin has several things in her favor: timing, being a Broadway debut, and the content.

For the most part, these are pretty reasonable nominations- I'm sure we'll be seeing variations of them come next week.

I agree Robbie. And yes, they weren't eligible. As I said in the other thread, the only real snub as far as I am concerned is Best Director for War Horse (possibly Jerusalem for Best Play). Everything else was pretty accurate though, I thought. SO PLEASED for them Women on the Verge love.

LuPone may well be able to sneak into Featured Actress in a Musical, given the dearth of eligible nominees in the category.

She won't win, but she stands a chance at a nomination. I'd nominate her over Kerry Butler.

No Ellen Barkin, Joe Mantello, Elizabeth Rodriguez, no jerusalem? I think they'll all be there at Tony time.

On second glance, I am somewhat pissed about Normal Heart not being nominated for Best Lighting. I mean... See Rock City? Really.

bjh - no Director nomination for War Horse isn't really a snub. They, and the rest of the creative team, received a special award for "thrilling stagecraft" and therefore were ineligible in the Best Direction category.

Yah, we discussed that in the other thread. Basically I'll post what I wrote there. "I would think it would still be eligible for Best Direction since that is both concept AND execution. When I think "creative team", I mostly think of the designers. In my head, the director is something separate. But I guess they are being awarded too, so I retract my previous statement."

Very happy about Sleep No More, but the most glaring omission is Peter and the Starcatcher for Outstanding Play, Direction, and Set Design.

I am SOOOOO surprised by the lack of love for Peter and the Starcatcher is getting this awards season. It barely got anything at the Outer Critics nominations, the Lortel nominations, or the Alliance nominations.

I especially thought the set was magnificent. Here's hoping Donyale Werle gets recognized for her equally whimsical Bloody Bloody set with the Tonys.

Unless I missed it, it's a shame that Dan Lauria wasn't nominated for Lombardi. But it's great that Judith Light was!

And I'm surprised about Jerusalem not being nominated for Best Play.

I am saddened that almost nothing that opened pre January was nominated.

Scottsboro Boys was forgotten. I guess it's a real long shot for some Tony noms. now.

I am just astounded at the egregious snub of "Angels in America" for Best Revival of a Play! I'm baffled at the general lack of love for this glorious Off-Broadway revival. Did people just not see it? It should be winning every award in sight!

Happy for Tony Sheldon! Pretty much expected nods for Priscilla. Looking for a repeat on Tuesday. Except with Nick getting a featured nod.
