What 5 shows/albums do you guys think will get nominated? Here are my thoughts:
Locks - She Loves Me (2016 BCR), Waitress (OBCR), School of Rock (OBCR)
Probably - Bright Star (OBCR), The Color Purple (2016 BCR)
Maybe - Fiddler On The Roof (2016 BCR), American Psycho (OLCR)
Probably Not - On Your Feet! (Live OBCR)
No Way - Disaster! (OBCR), Tuck Everlasting (OBCR)
And Waitress is gonna win.
Color Purple (by winning the Tony) is more of a lock to be nominated than She Loves Me. Also by virtue of the fact that it has Cynthia Erivo and Jennifer Hudson.
I think the Waitress cast recording is actually not that good, especially compared to the album What's Inside.
I would say bright star and waitress are locks, because of their composers. And I agree to the color purple also being a lock. I could see on your feet getting in there as its a jukebox musical.
I love the WAITRESS score but the cast recording is mixed SO poorly.
I highly prefer the cast album rather than the concept album. That's an unpopular opinion, I know.
Hopefully:
Waitress (OBC), She Loves Me (ORC), The Color Purple (ORC), School of Rock (OBC), and Bright Star (OBC).
I think the competition is between She Loves Me and Waitress. I don't understand the hate for Waitress. I think it sounds great. It just sounds a bit more poppy then the usual cast album, but I'm ok with that.
However, She Loves Me is probably one of the best cast recordings of the last few years. The cast is fantastic, the orchestra shimmers, and it has some of the best sound quality that I've heard on a cast album in years. What makes this album perfect for me though, is that I can close my eyes and see the show in my head when I listen to it. That for me is the secret to what makes a great cast album. Some of the other albums have been soooo processed that no emotion or performance comes out in the music (I'm looking at you Color Purple). Sometimes I think they're more concerned about singing perfectly than giving a whole performance.
Who I think should win: She Loves Me
What I Think Is In?:
Bright Star
The Color Purple
Waitress
What I Think Could Get In?:
Fiddler on the Roof
School of Rock
She Loves Me
What I'm Unsure Of:
On Your Feet! (has a live album ever been nominated for this award?)
the only other live original Broadway cast recording I can think of is Brooklyn. Anyone Can Whistle at Carnegie was nominated.

When is the deadline for 2017 awards??! How about cast recordings of new shows coming in 2016-2017? Just curious!
the deadline is should be in October and the the awards are in February.
most cast recordings for next season won't be eligible unless they come out before the deadline (Hamilton came out the day of the deadline last year)

The New York Philharmonic's concert production of Sweeney Todd back in 2000 was audio recorded live and it was nominated.

So Lazarus and Robber Bridegroom have recorded albums that haven't been released yet. (When is Lazarus coming out? Seems like it's been FOREVER.). Anything else so far?

They don't typically nominate Off Broadway recordings, especially when there were so many amazing Broadway recordings this year. I think the nominees will be Bright Star, The Color Purple, School of Rock, She Loves Me, and Waitress. The winner will be either SLM or Waitress.
Comet may be eligible, and if so, it will most likely win.
How would it be eligible? The Off-Broadway recording came out a few years ago now. The cast recording has to be RELEASED during that time. Doesn't matter when the show opens.

I'd be deciding between She Loves Me and Color Purple. Both are SO incredible.

I think Waitress will end up winning. I found no issue with the sound mixing, and just because it's not a grand, sweeping sound doesn't mean it's inferior. I don't think the committee of people that do the Grammys really cares very much. I do want She Loves Me to win though, and I think that those two are the two main contenders, with The Color Purple having an outside shot.

I would love for SLM to win - its orchestrations, singing and sound mixing are gorgeous. That said, I wouldn't mind wins for Waitress (Bareilles FINALLY getting her Grammy, though not for her solo work) or The Color Purple either (Erivo! Erivo!).
I'm saying that it could fit with the opening of the show for it to work, provided that the producers wish to push it out.
Congratulations to Cynthia Erivo on already being halfway to EGOT!

I hope her sure-to-be incredible work in the upcoming Harriet Tubman film helps fill that.
why were so few of the actors nominated compared to Hamilton. For example, Mister in TCP had as much/more singing as Ramos but only the 3 women were mentioned as nominees?
