Shucked also didn't nominate specific performers, which is interesting. Is it just up to the producers to submit a list when they submit for consideration?
I was going to come in here trashtalking the Grammys as a whole, but I suppose if it brings pleasure and recognition to the people who put in the hard work that in itself makes them worth it.

This is a wonderful list but I’m really bummed that Operation Mincemeat didn’t get nominated. The Grammy’s really should allow more cast albums to be nominated, especially if it’s a crowded season. As for the albums that did get nominated, it’s gonna be hard to choose between Parade and Kimberly Akimbo!
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince
The rules for principal vocalists change quite a bit pretty often, but the current rule is that there can be no more than four principal vocalists. They are designated on the entry form as those with "significant contributing performance(s), defined as a lead performance by a featured vocalist." The winning principal vocalists get a statuette and are considered to be Grammy winners. If there are no principal vocalists, then it's considered to be an "ensemble-driven piece." In that case, all the vocalists get a certificate but none of them get a statuette, and they are not official Grammy winners.
So I think the Shucked and Kimberly Akimbo folks decided that they are ensemble-driven, rather than having specific cast members singled out. With Kimberly Akimbo, I would have named Victoria Clark, Justin Cooley, Bonnie Milligan, and Alli Mauzey as principal vocalists, but they took a different path.
(The number of allowed principal vocalists has varied over time. There were ten for Hamilton, and every one of the eight cast members of Dear Evan Hansen was named. I believe at one point, there could be no more than 2 principal vocalists, and for most of Grammy history, there weren't any vocalists named at all.)

Congrats to Liz Callaway and the various artists of Phil Geoffrey Bond's ''Unplugged Sondheim'' on their Grammy nominations! It's so rare for theater/cabaret artists to crack this category. For years, it was dominated by Tony Bennett. More recently, Michael Buble has won it a few times. And often, it's been a category for rock-pop stars who sing the standards, like Rod Stewart, Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. Surprisingly, Barbra Steisand has never won Traditional Pop Vocal. Neither have Barry Manilow, Josh Groban, Rosemary Clooney, Michael Feinstein, Bernadette Peters, etc. I have no idea who'll win Traditional Pop next year, but there is a Tony recipient among the nominees: Bruce Springsteen!

Yeah. And it can be hard to whittle it down, especially because SHUCKED has such an ensemble feel that nominating 4 performers is really impossible.

I think Camelot got the most plays from me of the albums released this year. I know the new book wasn't universally praised, but the book is largely absent from the cast album, and I enjoy the album very much.
