Frankly find this a ridiculous move. Could this new venue built with tax dollars not employ some New Yorkers to create a new one rather than import a production from… the UK? Am I alone in this reaction?

The space allows for staging more like what’s been presented at The Old Vic. And I’m sure it’ll be American actors cast and employed by the show so I’m not sure I’m understanding the anger over this.

It’s a great production and the PAC is primarily a presenting house. They don’t self-produce a ton of things (and we all heard about the behind the scenes challenges of CATS).

It will employ dozens of New Yorkers.

The PAC is not a jobs program.

Hope they have a really exciting Scrooge lined up.

I’d rather they fill it with good productions than have it sit mostly empty with the occasional concert or dance programming. Other than Cats, they haven’t had anything of note there since they opened.

I think you are alone in these thoughts.  I saw it when it played Broadway in 2019 and it still is one of my favorite nights at a theater and I am planning a trip to NY just to see it again.  The cast at that time was all Americans but was a reproduction of the Old Vic’s production.  I am thrilled that this is returning.

Your tax dollars have been spent in many ridiculous areas since the founding of this country, if you really want to get angry on this topic, try somewhere else.

I plan to see this show again. Also saw it on Bway and loved it. It was so heartwarming

This was a beautiful beautiful show.  I normally don't care all that much for the whole "Christmas spirit" of things but even seeing this in November of 2019 last time, I felt really moved by it, and I'll be curious if they stage it in the round like it was in London.

I never said I was "angry", just that I found it ridiculous. It's a fine production. But, I suppose as a playwright, it would be nice to see NEW work commissioned by people here. *shrug*

Loved this show and was hoping it would go back to Broadway but I’d go see it downtown at the PAC!

It’s a holiday show which means it’s a limited engagement and will most likely generate revenue for PAC. I think it’s a win-win.

PAC will have other opportunities throughout the year to host new original work.

could a local artist not create a new christmas carol/holiday show?

^ Absolutely, but then they couldn't charge $350 a ticket :)

PAC is a great, modern space but they haven't had any notable productions besides The Jellicle Ball, so this will be a great boost for them. This production is just stunning.

Feel free to not see it

and try playing the technicality card like “not SAYING angry” somewhere else.

this production won 5 TONY awards, that is a huge marketing plus

The production will employ hundreds of New Yorkers. What are you talking about?

"

Finding something ridiculous and being angry are two different emotional responses. Sorry if that’s hard for you to understand.

As I said earlier, I guess I’m just coming at this from the perspective of a writer. Could a new version, commissioned to lift up a burgeoning playwright, not also employ all of those people?

Yeesh. So sorry for trying to have a dialogue.

PAC does not produce or commission shows and the rest of the year they host a myriad of original shows. They can take a holiday season to make some money on a well known production of a holiday classic.

I'd see it again if they get a good cast. Not my favorite Christmas Carol but it was sweet and made some cool choices. I especially liked
