Haven't found an existing thread for this, so here goes:
It's that time again - the crown jewels of West End theatre will be recognized tomorrow, as the 2025 Olivier nominations are revealed by Nicole Scherzinger and Tom Francis, standouts from last year's big winner SUNSET BOULEVARD, before the scheduled ceremony on April 6.
Eligible for noms this year are several star-studded, game-changing, and (in some cases) Broadway-bound productions. While the new musical field seems dispiritingly weak this time around (aside from ...BENJAMIN BUTTON and perhaps GREAT COMET), the new play and musical revival categories are worth keeping an eye on.
What do we think, folx?

I believe that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a lock for a Best Musical nomination. Here is MickeyJoTheatre's prediction video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBixMOH3MuA

Nominations are out: https://www.broadwaynews.com/nominations-announced-for-londons-2025-olivier-awards/, didn't want to copy over everything so here are the two big categories:
Mastercard Best New Musical
• “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” music and lyrics by Darren Clark, book and lyrics by Jethro Compton, at Ambassadors Theatre
• “MJ The Musical,” book by Lynn Nottage, at Prince Edward Theatre
• “Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812,” music, lyrics and book by Dave Malloy, at Donmar Warehouse
• “Why Am I So Single?,” music, lyrics and book by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, at Garrick Theatre
The Londoner Award for Best New Play
• “The Fear of 13” by Lindsey Ferrentino, at Donmar Warehouse
• “Giant” by Mark Rosenblatt, at Royal Court Theatre
• “Kyoto” by Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson, at @sohoplace
• “Shifters” by Benedict Lombe, at Duke of York’s Theatre
• “The Years” adapted by Eline Arbo, in an English version by Stephanie Bain, at Almeida Theatre and Harold Pinter Theatre
Can someone explain to me what "affiliate theater" means? Is that just another theater that's not officially "West End" but still eligible for Oliviers? I thought it was interesting English was also playing over there.
So happy to see Adam Dannheisser here! I couldn't make it to London to see this, but he’s wonderful in everything he does.
Best part of the morning was seeing Nicole and Tom in their post-show looks, saying they were “bloody excited” to reveal the nominees. Ha.
Looking forward to seeing what shows from the pack follow through with their Broadway plans, besides GIANT and BENJAMIN BUTTON.

I’m glad it’ll be streamed again for the USA after we weren’t allowed to watch it live last year.

Best Earnest I've ever seen. They returned it to the farce it always was, not a witty comedy of manners. There should have been more Olivier nominations!!!
They’re just starting, for anyone who wanted to watch.
Nice opening and an inventive new gospel arrangement of “Luck Be a Lady.”
I miss Quentin Earl Darrington in MJ. :)

Lesley Manville saying Tom Hiddleston is "nice" and exclaiming "I'm single!" took me out.
Jo Foster is a STAR.
Apparently I’ve heard that WHY AM I SO SINGLE? is heading to Chicago Shakespeare Theatre next season with Jo, Leesa, and Noah all intact.

I guess I should see Giant? I see there are some tickets when I go. Anybody catch it at Royal Court?

Yes. The thesis of Giant comes down to the bigotted dictum that anyone who is pro Palestinian is secretly anti-semitic. It's why I disliked this play very, very much and I lost respect for Nicholas Hytner who is not a fan of Jeremy Corbyn and suppisedly agreed to direct this play to kick the man when he's down. However Lithgow is brilliant in it.
And it’s coming to NY next season if you can’t make it to London.

Thanks to all who responded! Just got tickets. I was caught in indecision because I wasn't sure if I'd want to see My Master Builder, Totoro, or Oliver, as we only had room for one more show. But now looking forward to seeing Giant!
The Fagin that performed was the best I’ve ever seen. Also ready for another Fiddler revival and fully expecting Benjamin Button to transfer.
Oh I can’t WAIT to see BENJAMIN BUTTON on Broadway next spring.
Pretty wild that Adam Dannheiser played Lazar Wolf in the last FIDDLER Broadway revival and he’ll take on Tevye in the next.

If this Fiddler prod comes over to NYC, I wonder if they'll be able to get the full effect of that gorgeous set. There was something special about watching the show in the slightly chilly open air of the Regent's Park greens, listening to "Sunrise, Sunset" as the sun goes down in the horizon. Curious to see how this plays over at the Barbican.
Plans may have changed since then, but someone in the know had told me over the holidays that BUTTON would play the Hudson after ALL OUT.

Excited for Fiddler to potentially come over but can’t wait for Button. That looks gorgeous.
If they can get his schedule to work, I’m expecting Giant to come over in the fall after those wins and Oedipus sounds sensational.

I could see Benjamin Button doing really well in NYC.As the extended run of Once proved, there’d be no problem casting the show for Broadway but I do hope Olivier winner John Dagleish and Olivier nominee Clare Foster get to recreate their work for New York audiences. This show is magical.
