"Why is it Ok for Susan Boyle to use her bad looks as a stepping stone to stardom but not for someone pretty to use their good looks the exact same way?"
Is it fair to say that she is "using" her looks? It seems to me she's just been swept along for the ride. I think all of this is more useful for a commentary on society rather than her, so I don't see the need for personal attacks. I also feel even if you don't think she's that impressive, part of what makes people interested is the idea of "what could have been." Innate talent has been shown to have less of an impact on success than training, resources, time, and connections. Maybe it was because of her looks and time spent caring for her mother that her full potential wasn't realized. Sure, there are tons of people with similar stories who we never hear about, but that's the way the ball rolls.
And since when has it been said that it's not okay for good looking people to use their looks for success? Even if people criticize, it happens all the time! It's ingrained. Susan Boyle isn't gonna change that so it's not that big a deal.

this equation works for me:
Amount of praise, attention, worship Boyle is getting >
Amount of actual talent she has shown.

That's all she wrote.

Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes

One good thing about Susan Boyle is that everytime she is featured on something it is one less time that the attention-whore Octo-Mom is not featured on something!
I can't wait for SNL to do a take on her! You know she is going to be played by one of the fat white guys on the cast!
