Last night's preview was packed. Not sure if it was sold out.
Not an easy show: ACA means well but the music is ultimately boring. All of the songs are recitative [?]; is this the correct term for songs that are "sung" dialogue? There is really not one moment in the show where you feel that a real song is about to be sung.
Tom Wopat is strong against a Mama Rose-ish Faith Prince. (Although no one in this Irish family has an Irish accent.) Nice Matt Cavenaugh is stuck with a dull role that makes him look like Clark Kent.
Some musical moments are nice but none make you
feel anything. Is it the fault of the score? the small orchestra?
The show would be stronger without the music.
Do you know what happens when you let Veal Prince Orloff sit in an oven too long?
