A lot of theaters are going to be vacant in the coming months - any idea of what’s going where? — Page 3

Looks like we’re about to get the another revival of Sound of Music. https://www.instagram.com/p/DZ5AEOOOKVG/ These two quotes are dead giveaways, insane that A Few Good Men and SoM actually had been the rumors for over the past months.

I'm pretty sure that "special theatrical event" at the St James. is David Byrne's Who is The Sky?"
What about the rumors of Dolly taking the St. James? After Who is The Sky maybe?

Dolly Parton musical is now looking at August Wilson Theater as rumored 42nd Street is expected to secure St James Theatre, all both for Spring 2027.

I'm very confident Dolly is not coming in (heard from someone on the show).

I thought that Dolly would head over to the Broadway for Spring 2027, the last time I heard about the news was that Dolly Parton is rewriting the book (or show) after it received mixed reviews.

The revised Purple Rain is expected to come to Broadway for next Spring https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/24/theater/broadway-new-musical-theater.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share
Looks like it’s not dead anymore, but I’ve a feeling that it could go into the Majestic theater instead Dreamgirls. Saheem Ali is now set to direct Purple Rain and Peter Duchan is currently rewriting the book for the show. Mainly due to the show received lot of mixed to negative reviews from last summer when it had a world premiere out of NYC tryout.

I have definitely heard it is going into the Majestic Theatre and Dolly is taking the St. James

Hopeful for Purple Rain but hope it's not Seheem Ali directing. His not a great musical director. Goddess was average, at best - and Buena Vista Social Club is great because of the music and choreography - not the direction. Yikes.

Unless Dolly is hoping to go the Just in Time/A Beautiful Noise route, it'll be DOA with Tony awards - Actress already has two front runners with Rachel Zegler and Jasmine Amy Rogers for Evita and Sound of Music respectively. Book likely will go to Paddington or Warriors and I don't know if it'll be eligible for score. I love Dolly Parton, but I'm not going to rush out to see another bio musical especially after it got such a tepid reception last summer.

If Dolly has the St. James—Where is 42nd street headed then?

Then where would the 42nd street would go to?

I know a few people on the show and they havent been told anything about an opening or the opposite. They are totally in the dark. Wondering if your source had more specific intel saying it definitely isn't opening this season.

Confirmed: Three Days of Rain expected to go into an Shubert Organization Theater for February 2027 performance. https://shubert.nyc/press/three-days-of-rain-on-broadway-starring-françois-arnaud-david-corenswet-yvonne-strahovski/
Now I have a feeling that a rumored Title of Show will go into Lunt-Fontanume Theatre for extremely limited engagement for this fall.

Local 1 and Local 764 contract negotiations this summer , perhaps a small part of it ?

Yep, that’s correct, let me actually explain it further in a seperate comment on why did I mentioned that.

Tying this to the summer Local 1 and Local 764 negotiations actually makes complete sense. Eyeing the Lunt-Fontanne for a Glee reunion cast (Lea, Darren, Kevin) in a minimalist show [title of show] is a highly calculated strategy. Even with major stars filling a massive theater, the production only requires four chairs and street clothes along with a piano on stage. This setup completely avoids the expensive Local 1 sound resets and Local 764 costume alteration traps that a larger musical would trigger during active contract talks. It allows for a high-revenue, star-driven run while maintaining a microscopic backstage labor risk.

It’s going into Barrymore for Spring 2027, there’s usually a spring play at that theater."
any rumors for the leads?

[title of show] at the Lunt-Fontanne sounds crazy even with stars in the cast.

I'm wondering what happens if Spring Awakening hits it out of the park. Hypothetically how long could they stay at Studio Seaview for? If it sells out, do they transfer to New World or try a limited run at a small bway house? I imagine the limited run is going to sell quickly initially.

That'll have the Hudson in the Spring if they want it I'd bet.

I was just chatting about the new production of Spring Awakening with a friend this week; we both were pretty sure that if it's a hit, they'll find *some* future for it. Wasn't even thinking of the Hudson but that would be a nice fit - if not that, I think Benjamin Button was rumored pending a successful run at the Public.
The Hudson has been proving itself an increasingly prime venue, so as I presume any sort of extension is near-impossible considering the cast of Other Desert Cities, it'll be free for a spring show.

All My Sons is eyeing the Hudson Theater for Spring 2027 transfer tho right? Or maybe Studio 54 somehow opens up for spring 2027?

Nothing is confirmed until it's confirmed. Even announced shows move houses, so we'll see. Last season didn't take it's sad shape really until the Fall slate had started.
