I have zero desire to ever see this. Honestly, I don't think ALW has put out a good score in decades. That new Wizard of Oz was a hot mess, and I found School of Rock completely unbearable except when the kids were the focus (although the lyrics might have had something to do with that).

It sounds like this project will be A LOT better than what we thought it was gonna be!
There is this article:
https://nypost.com/2019/05/16/cinderella-musical-gives-prince-charming-a-gay-twist/]‘Cinderella’ musical gives Prince Charming a gay twist
It basically says the musical had a workshop in London at the Other Palace theatre, and more info on the plot, like that Cinderella will be more feisty and fiery, she will fall in love with an adorable oddball named Sebastian, she doesn't need the prince, and the prince will fall in love with the duke. But what has excited me immensely is some other news. I mean, Cinderella is my favorite story, mostly for the magic, so I was really upset when Andrew Lloyd Webber said "It takes it away from the world of magic and fairy godmothers, but it's not going to be anywhere nearly as modern as, say, Los Angeles in 2023." But now this article is saying, "It’s still set in the land of castles and fairy godmothers." So YAY for me!
There is one more article, revealing the cast of the workshop, here:

Some of the character names are Sebastian and Marie, which is weird, because the 2013 Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella on Broadway had Sebastian, the prince's royal advisor, and Marie, the fairy godmother.

Forget Cinderella--do Sleeping Beauty--the Anne Rice version--her SB wasn't woken with a kiss, and as for the rest of the townsfolk---you'll have to read the book.
Many many years ago when I read everything Anne Rice, and also those by her other names, I asked for them[there are 3]in a London bookstore and the guy just pointed, and said with derision-'they're over there'.
I fell in love with THAT Prince Charming

I heard there is a gay subplot involving Prince Charming and the Duke (about time!). Both are listed as supporting roles in the cast as of the reading (interesting that the prince won't even be a lead here!). So, this is shaping up to be more fresh than I thought... I do wonder about the music still...

Well, given that the Duke and Prince Charming are part of the "male ensemble" and not listed as principal characters, that subplot must be very small.

The Cast article seems to have been taken down, which doesn't suprise me. For all the hype generated by these workshops, this is still at a very, very early stage, and there will probably be a lot of changes before Cinderella gets to Broadway. If the Prince and his Duke are still supporting characters at this point, they could easily get upgraded to the core cast if people like their subplot. However, the focus should still be on Cinderella and her new love interest.
P.S I think it's fine to name one character after a character from Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, but naming TWO after characters from that earlier version feels a bit excessive...

I don’t know for sure, but it’s likely Douglas Carter Beane took inspiration for his book adaptation from existing variations of the fairy tale including names. Webber and company may simply be working from the same source.

Oh, I hope the gay subplot does get more prominence! But yes, the focus should be on Cinderella and her romance.
I know a lot of Cinderella versions and as far as the ones close to the "original' or "real" Cinderella it's pretty much just the original Greecian one, Chinese one, Italian one, and then the ones we know the best, the French one that invented the fairy godmother and glass slipper and the German one which has Cinderella's mother's ghost and the stepsisters cutting their feet. I have never heard the names Sebastian or Marie in any of those versions. However, Douglas Carter Beane's use of "Charlotte" was one of the English translations of a stepsister's name from the French one for the Rodgers + Hammerstein Broadway version.
