SJP is a tad young for Hannigan but it would sort of be completing the cycle as she played Annie when she was a child.

I say they have Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin play the role of Miss Hannigan at alternating performances.

Lady Gaga as Hannigan would sell that bitch of a theatre out for 6 years. Gaga can be a bitch and scream and sing her tits off.
I actually think Jennifer Coolidge would be a great Hannigan although she wont sell seats.
What if you got Kelly and Mark or SJP and Matthew to play Rooster and Lily. That would sell seats.

Umm because Gaga will never agree to do Broadway while she's still a star and SJP and Mathew or Kelly and Mark would never agree to such, almost thankless, roles like Lily and Rooster.

I believe Dorothy Loudon was about 44 when she played Miss Hannigan. To the person who said Sarah Jessica Parker is too young for Miss Hannigan, she just turned 47. The two are very different types though, and I just can't imagine SJP in the role.

"The original production of Annie played four theatres while on Broadway - it ended its six year run playing more than a year at the Uris (now Gershwin) and back when that theatre had over 1900 seats."
It still has over 1900 seats. In fact it has 1933. Whether or not seats were removed for Wicked's massive set only changes the seating capacity for that particular production.

Well I'll see Sarah Jessica Parker before I see Rosie, that's for sure. I think she's going to be very good, actually. She's got great comedic timing and she's got the energy the role requires. I think it could be an interesting, fresh take on the role.

Parker as Hannigan would be a brilliant coup - a sure-fire way to kill anything remotely comic about the role, just like her breathtakingly unfunny Winifred in Once Upon A Mattress.

I sort of love the SJP idea the more I think about it. I see her playing Hannigan as a woman who used to be beautiful and sexy, full of dreams and hopes to be an actres, marry rich, etc but got trapped and is desperate to get out. It could be a very nw and fresh take on the role or she could play just what's on the page and be very flat. I'm not just going to write her off as quickly as I would be for Rosie.

Bringing depth and "reality" to a featherlight cartoon like Annie (or Once Upon a Mattress for that matter) doesn't up the entertainment factor.

I see SJP as quirky funny, but not necessarily comedic actress funny. Saw her in the revival of Once Upon a Mattress, and there really wasn't anything about that production that I liked, but I definitely don't fault her for that.

I don't know, newintown. SJP was an effective villain in Sex and the City.

I don't think SJP is right for Hannigan in the least. But I adored her in The Family Stone. Still my favorite holiday film.

What about Oscar winner Mo'Nique? She'd kill it.
I love when anyone plays against type, so I'd love SJP to go for it.
They won't get anyone super hot like Jane Lynch. They need to look for an unemployed A or B-lister. However, an A lister will eat up most of the profits. I mean if you hire SJP she is going to get a HUGE salary and have lots of perks built into the contract.
They need to look for someone popular but not super pricey. Someone who is a little hungry.

Actually a character actress like Missi Pyle, Jennifer Coolidge, Ana Gasteyer or Cheri Oteri would be great, but they dont sell tickets.
What about Kristen Wiig-she would definitely nail it.

From my understanding, SJP was offered, she gave a polite "thank you but no" and they moved to Rosie even though that deal is not signed for reasons I don't know, my guess would be she is being a diva with demands. I think if Rosie doesn't sign on, they give SJP whatever she wants.

Just please don't close PRISCILLA. That's all I ask.
Also, does anyone else think that Bernadette Peters would make a fabulous Miss Hannigan?
