Bringing up John Travolta again, he was not only a replacement in the original Broadway run of GREASE (his Broadway debut) but he was also in the original 1974 Broadway cast of OVER HERE! and had a feature solo number “Dream Drummin.” The following year he hit pop culture stardom in the hit 1975 ABC TV series WELCOME BACK, KOTTER, appeared in a few feature films (CARRIE, most notably) which led to an Oscar nomination for the 1977 film SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER.

His stans would destroy the theatre going experience. I adore him, his voice and his music. However, Ive attended his concerts and his fans sing over him and are generally an intolerable bunch. They would make a Broadway theatre going experience a nightmare for both him and their fellow attendees.

Yeah, I had a ticket to his recent tour, then I remembered what that would be like in person, and promptly scalped the ticket on StubHub, heh.

Benedict Cumberbatch is overdue. He's done a lot of work on the London stage, but never in New York, to my knowledge. Same goes for Tom Hiddleston. I imagine both have gotten offers many times that didn't pan out.
Tom Hiddleston will be starring in a revival of Betrayal in London starting in March. Maybe it'll transfer?

"I remember around the time of Doubt an interviewer asked her if she would come back to Broadway, since she had done several stage-to-screen adaptations (Doubt, Mamma Mia, Angels in America). She said then that she was excited to do more theatre once all her children had left the house. Now, of course, that's been the case for several years, and she still hasn't done any theatre. I so wish I could have seen her Mother Courage. From the bootleg, her performance in The Seagull just looks astonishing."
Just curious if she was every considered for the Broadway show "Doubt".

Halfway through Season 2 of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and I would love to see Rachel Brosnahan; she has enough charisma to fill the Broadway Theatre.

Those one-time-only live NBC shows rehearse for months so it’s a long commitment. Yes, it’s just a one time broadcast performance but when the cast signs it’s about a 3-4 month commitment with a full-time production schedule.

I wish she would’ve followed Glenn Close in Sunset Boulevard in 2017 and maybe picked up a special Tony for it. She would’ve probably been a great Sally Bowles in the ‘98 “Cabaret”.

Sweets, Special Tony Awards aren’t given to replacements in shows. No exceptions have ever been made.

Well, it sort of happened a few years ago with John Cameron Mitchell in Hedwig. You could argue the Tony was also for him writing the show, but Trask didn’t get a special Tony along with JCM.
Anyway, your main point still stands - it’s generally not a thing that’s done. But I wouldn’t go so far as to say that no exceptions have EVER been made.

Seen mostly as a game show host and judge on AGT I think it would be great to have Howie Mandel play the King in a future revival of The King and I.

Also would love to see Kate Winslet!
And Michelle Dockery. She's done a lot of theatre in the UK– including the London production of "Network" so we were so close!! She didn't transfer because of filming the Downton Abbey movie, I think, but hopefully something else will come along!
