Hello group,

I’m not one to do an early-bird-rush-through-to-make-curtain-dinner --- So, do any of you New Yorkers or regular Broadway-goers have any suggestions for dining after a show ...?

Doesn’t necessary have to be high-end or too fancy, just looking for your favorite place in the Theater District or nearby that’s not an Olive Garden ...

I realize ‘Joe Allen’ is one of the ‘go-to’ places but it’s never easy to get into...

Thanks for any good suggestions...

Pongsri on 48th/8th if you like Thai. Really good food and frighteningly fast. It's also a more relaxed setting than any of the Yum Yums.

I typically go to Joe Allen. I love it there. Either that or Chez Josephine on 42nd. I love it there too. Both have a lot of style and atmosphere.

Da Marino's- across the street from Chicago- great Italian food, very cool atmosphere- always someone at the Piano, sometimes the staff joins in, a very fun place to eat, and once you go there a few times and they get to know you, they treat you like royalty upon return visits- I highly recommend!

Angus McInDoes and Hourglass (Bettibar on the second floor for late-night snacks). Both are excellent places for celebrity sightings, too.

Thanks for these quick responses ...

I’m going to be in NY this weekend and have tickets for ‘Once’ on Saturday and ‘Silence’ on Friday ... the weather seems like it will be great up there ...
so far, these dining suggestions seem excellent...

Just stay away from the hotel restaurants. Extremely overpriced and not very good.

Especially avoid The View at the Marriott Marquis -- it might have a great view of Times Square and the Hudson River but the food is awful (especially at those prices), the wait staff is rude and condescending, and if you are not a guest in the hotel the bar has a cover charge.

I, too, am fond of La Masseria. West Bank Cafe is also a respectable standby.

Many (most, I'd venture) restaurants in close proximity to theatre serve until 11 or midnight. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a place. If you find a place that you like, check their website or call and ask how late their kitchen is open.

Those are both nice places, but I especially like Glass House Tavern right next to La Masseria, very convenient, right on 48th.

I end up at Juniors a lot, decently large portions, reasonable prices and it's usually pretty quick and it's convenient.

I know some people hate on that Juniors but I still love it

Add in a vote from me for La Masseria. I went there last year on AC's recommendation and had a wonderful meal.

I always go to Joe Allen's on W.46th between 8th and 9th. If you can make a reservation one week in advance you will have no trouble getting a table. The food is good and the staff are friendly.

I went with a group to Thalia once. It's at 8th & 50th st, I believe. It was good. Not crowded for the time we came in either.

Thalia is good--but that's about it. There's nothing special about the food, drinks, atmosphere, etc.

Family style Italian. Fabulous and not pricey.

I like Joe Allen for the "buzz". I like Angus MacIndoe's for the buzz and the food and prices.
One night at the bar at Thalia after seeing Book of Mormon, about 10 from the cast came into the bar and were ordering food and drinks next to us. We spoke to them thanking them for the wonderful evening we had had, and before long they had us joining them. What a wonderful group and we had almost as many laughs as we had at the show. The bar menu there, incidentally is perfect for me for after theatre -- rather than the more full menu at the tables.
Room Service on 9th (48th) is wonderful and very inexpensive Thai and good drinks in a nicer than usual atmosphere for that type of place.

I've dined at Angus McIndoe around ten times or so, and in those ten times I've seen Gary Beach, Brian Dennehy, Tamara Tunie, Bryan F. O'Byrne, and Tony Shalhoub.

If you are looking for something downtown after SILENCE! I recommend La Palapa if you like Mexican food. It's on St. Marks Place one block south of PS122 where SILENCE! is playing.

Enjoy your trip.

I’m only in the city for matinees, but I’ll get dinner around 6 on those days. I love Joe Allen and Serafina on 49th next to the Eugene O’Neill Theatre. Serafina has delicious, authentic Italian food.
