Stephen Schwartz was recently in Malaga to oversee Antonio Banderas' new production of Godspell at his Teatro del Soho, but he was also accompanied by director Gordon Greenberg and a look to the projects section of his web (https://www.gordongreenberg.com/projects) reveals the following:
I loved the series Banderas starred in. Will he be in the production?
Who knows, he's producing but he might star like in A Chorus Line and Company. I'm also excited for a new Schwartz score.
Heck, everything is “headed for Broadway.” Even my 13 year old neighbor’s backyard musical extravaganza.

It's more of a "want" than a "will" for most hopefuls.
Banderas seems to have shown a certain degree of dedication to the stage, so I figure it's only a matter of time before he's back onstage in NYC.
No particular opinion about this project - I wonder if Schwartz really has another good score left in him. No particular reason why not, I guess, except that he hasn't written a full score in a while, and the individual songs he's written in that time haven't struck me as very inspired.
Consider my interest piqued. (But also, I'll believe it when I see it!) The director gives me pause, though –– by all accounts, his last Broadway show was taken away from him with Scott Ellis redirecting it in previews.
It's the world's most obvious casting, but I have always wanted to see Banderas in a large-scale revival of MAN OF LA MANCHA.
I believe this would be one of two new projects Schwartz is working on, which is exciting.

What was the story there? I hadn't heard about this, nor am I very familiar with this director. Looking through his credits, I think the only thing of his I saw was the recent Guys and Dolls revival in London, which was pretty meh.
But it also looks like he has a long resume, and works pretty consistently. That doesn't necessarily mean he's good, but it suggests that a single instance of being replaced wouldn't necessarily preclude him from being a capable director in general.

"
Greenberg is a horrible director.
Is there anything inspired about his particular productions or just that it's Banderas?

What is the other one. I assume ‘Houdini’ is long dead, it you never know.
