I'm kinda excited that they cancelled the show for today [Tuesday the 2nd] and I'm really anixous to see what the big changes are! When I saw it, I loved it, but I got the feeling they still had something up their sleeves. Then they cancel this show. Hmm. I think they are going to reveal something big, and I'm really excited to see / hear what it is!
So, if anyone is going on Wed, can you make sure to report back and tell us what the changes are?

It would be nice if this all works out. The show obviously needs major changing. I hear that they are reopening Wednesday as Shrek '2'.
p.s. The next change may be a move to the land of Far Far Away.

My guess is it has to do with the Act 2 opener since Sutton mentioned it was a totally new song in that playbill.com interview and as of last Friday it was still the same song that was there in the preview.
I'd like to think that it may be something with the dragon, but I have a feeling it's whatever the Act 2 opener is.
Maybe both?

Is tomorrow opening night?
I hope they changed the dragon--that is the WORST part of the show!
And why are they changing the act 2 opening? I thought that song was so cute!

No, but they went dark tonight to put in some changes.
As to the other question...I don't know. But Sutton said they changed it during that playbill article.

I saw the show Nov 29th...
Going off of videos on "that" site the changes to "Morning Person" have already been put in place. A motorized mouse now crosses the stage followed by the piper. The curtain(which is also new) comes back down and the tap begins. A big change is that the curtain goes out completely and the emsemble is there in mouse costumes and their is a whole dance break. Sutton rips off her skirt and does a "Chicago" type dance. At the end her skirt is replaced and it finishs as it had originally.

I saw the second preview, and Morning Person was exactly like what yeahitskavin said. It is a much longer number that it way more interesting (and fun) than the original Morning Person.
From what people are saying, it sounds like the song was totally replaced with another song?
And there's a new finale... Can anybody tell me what it is? (If you do not want to post spoilers, you can PM me.)

You don't accept private messages.
Basically in the finale they just added in a new song called "This Is Our Story". It's really good and sums up the message of the show.
You know, reading the interview with Sutton again, I think that the Act 2 thing as it has been here is new from Seattle, not that it's been changed. The only thing she mentions "going in tonight" was the new ending.
Maybe they are trying something else with Dragon?

Hmm... I bet that there will be some bootlegs showing up somewhere soon enough... (Although I do not support them, I can't afford to go see the changes, unfortunately.)
And what can they possibly do with the dragon? They can't just cut the concept of a dragon really, and to cut Donkey Pot Pie this late in previews would just be a shame. I think it's just going to be one of those really annoying things that will not be fixed. (I hope not, because this will probably hurt reviews, but again, it's too late in previews!)

AND PM me!
I saw the third preview and saw the same thing for Morning Person, however, I'm prety sure the changes made before it came to New York are what Sutton has been refering to. If not, I'd be slightly diappointed. However, after seeing the show in Seattle, they certainly have changed in some places too much (the Opening number, in the ensemble part, atleast, Donkey Pot Pie, deleting More to the Story, even the end of Who I'd Be) and in others, too little (Fiona's transformations, the castle sequences in Act One, Donkey's costume). Hopefully this cacelled performance will provide them with enough time to truly tighten, maybe even expand slightly, this potential heavy show.

I think they've added back in some of the stuff from the opening.
*spoilers*
Grown Shrek now enters via an outhouse. It was definitely a different opening since the first preview.
The ending change is, like I said, the addition of a song "This Is Our Story". Fiona starts it ~ sings about all the contradictions she is. Shrek joins, and eventually all the fairy tale characters join in. My favorite line in there: "We are different, but united; We are us and we are you; This is our story." It really sums up the show nicely. :)
*EDIT* As for Dragon, I don't have the same major problems with it a lot of other people seem to. I don't know...I've just heard that is most people's biggest complaint with it.

I just got back from it just now. Awesome show, though I still think it has a few kinks to work out.
I'm not sure what the changes were becuase I haven't seen the show live nor seen many videos of it, but I'd love to answer anyone's questions =)

The question I'm sure everyone (or atleast I am...) is wanting to know--
was there just one woman or many singing for the dragon??

Dragon was awesome and was very creativly put together.
There was someone working the head of Dragon, probably from inside. As well as two wings, each controlled by an actor. In addition five scales that made up the body of Dragon were controlled by actors as well. Finally, a chorus of 3 women gave the Dragon a voice. In my opinion, it was better then a single person being credited as the Dragon.
And by controlled I mean puppeteering jobs.
Sorry if it's a little hard to understand I'm kinda tired lol

How was the second act opening song? Morning Person is still in, right? I'm nervous they might have replaced the song. Does Sutton still rip off her skirt and the big tap number?
What was Fiona's transformation like?

Posted: 12/4/08 at 12:12amYes, you are correct. I actually didn't know that they changed it from her just tapping in front of the curtain, so that was a surprise in itself. A great way to start off Act II. Sutton was just amazing. Amazing.

So it is still in and a full blown ensemble number? That's good!
So then what was the big change? They didn't change the Dragon, it doesn't sound like it.
What was the set like?

Oh sorry didn't see the second part of the question:
Fiona's transformation wasn't too hard to figure out how it's done. What was done is Fiona says something to the effect of "I can't do it" right before the Fairytales creatures storm on. then they do their dialogue while a body double for Fiona comes on veil down. Sutton is probably changing during the interval. After the fairytales creatures finish their junk, Fiona's transformation begins. Body dobule Fiona goes on the altar, blackout, and then Sutton switches places and appears in ogre form. That's about it I guess. Again I could be wrong lol
The set was amazing, really creative.
I really wish i could help more, but like I said I've probably seen old videos anyways.
You know they changed the opening "big bright.." and "this is how a dream comes true" right??
#24re: Anyone seeing Shrek this Wed Dec 3rd?
Posted: 12/4/08 at 12:25amWait, what? Did they cut those two songs? What are the new songs? I LOVED This is How A Dream Comes True. What's the new song like? Or how did they change it? I Think I Got Ya Beat is still in, right? By far my favorite song! haha.
