As someone who lived through the "Raven Symone as Elphaba" scare of the mid-2000's, I feel like this might be fake about Ariana Grande in the show.
AS for Frankie Grande, not a fan of him at all! Didn't like him on Big Brother, nothing. I don't like him. However, I will agree with the previous poster who said, its not like Wicked needs to "stunt-cast". I mean, celebrities have gone into the show (Rue McCanahan, Joey Mcintyre, Jo Ann Worley to name a few), and they didn't announce it full out like Chicago, or Cabaret.

Maybe I'm a little behind, but isn't Ariana Grande's career sort of at its peak now? Why would she do a stint as a replacement in a long-running show? Celebrities who go into shows like this are usually at the other side of their career high-point.
But if it's coming from the British tabloids I'd take it all with a pinch of salt. When Mary Poppins opened on Broadway initially, Heather Mills/McCartney was reported by UK newspapers to be the first replacement for the title role.
I wouldn't mind if she was Glinda (provided they taught her how to enunciate) as long as they get someone CRAZY talented like Eva Noblezada or Samantha Barks, and fill the supporting cast with fabulous and inspired actors. Example: Audra as Morrible
If they want no acting, character or song interpretation, then Ariana is an inspired choice! She did none of those things in Hairspray. Would she do two shows a week or will the producers pay for years of training to undo everything she does in hope of maybe five shows a week for am eight-week stint? As for Frankie, he'll need a Social Media rider to his contract so that he can continue tweeting on stage.

I guess I don’t understand why people are so quick to jump on “they won’t do all eight shows a week!!!” - she’s done it before, and she’s also a touring machine. Touring a solo show of her magnitude is pretty on par to the feeling of doing eight shows a week.
They/them.

Jesus, some of you are acting like the role of Elphaba is a Tennessee Williams role. It is a plug and play role, anyone who can hit the notes can do it. It is a nothiness role, from an acting perspective. Just say the words and hit the notes, the audience won't care.

You clearly haven't read the comment sections on YouTube bootlegs of Elphaba's three big songs.

I laughed super hard at this! hahaha! No, I haven't! There are some places, in the vastness of this internet world, that scare me into having a cognitive dissonance of them,
Look I don't have an opinion on whether Ariana can do it or not. But I do know Elpaha requires significant acting talent to pull off. And I swear on Elaine Stritch's cold dead body that I'll start a vengeful Twitter campaign if they fvck up my first favorite musical
Edit - I low-key hope this isn't true because I'm rooting for Megan Hilty as Galinda (I know it's a LONG shot) and she won't be cast opposite a teenage-looking Elphaba.

It's not like she's going to sign on for a year, so even if she wasn't good, she wouldn't be there for a long time... she just wants to do it, not prove she can do 8 shows a week for 9 months. Probably just do a dozen weeks or so tops, unless they back the truck up...
If anyone has heard her singing The Song that goes like this in Carpool karaoke it makes me think she'd be better at playing Glinda and might be able to pull it off better. Ofcourse I'm dumping this into the rumour mill regardless because it's very unlikely.
But I don't think Grande has the right vocals. I LOVE her music, and have played her latest album OUT, but I think she has a more breathy, airy vocal that isn't suited to the part. Now, Demi would NAIL this role. She's got that dark quality to her.
I'm 90% sure she's prepping new music to come out in the new few weeks as a follow up to DANGEROUS WOMAN, which was hugely successful. I wouldn't mind her on film as Nessa, but if she's returning to Broadway I'd expect it in a new production as opposed to being a replacement.

For what it’s worth a couple months ago someone did in fact post about this possibility happening and then quickly deleted the comment. Her in wicked might not happen right away, but I can definitely see it happening

In actual reality, it's not.

I'm not convinced a minor role in a flop written for teens ten years ago is the same as Elphaba in Wicked. She was lucky producers wanted to cash in on her name for Hairspray on TV. Hopefully, Broadway producers watched it and will rethink that decision.
