Does anyone know if Wicked is coming to Sydney Australia??? If it does, it would be a billion dreams come true for me! Anybody got any evidence that remotely suggests it would come here? And could someone explain to me, what does it mean when they say there's going to be an "Adapted" Japense Wicked produciton? Would they do an "Adapted" one for Aus? I'd have given ANYTHING to have seen the OBC of it! For the many people who did see Idina and Kristin, DAM U ALL, IM SO JEALOUS!!!
If someone could please answer my questions, that would be fantastical!
Nothing to suggest a production in Sydney YET. I'm sure it's possible.
As for the "adapted" production in Japan, all that probably means is that there will be a change in the script, probably eliminations of certain parts for a shorter running time.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

when i did the behind the emerald curtain tour in new york in november, the wicked coming to london news was first announced. they also did say that it will open in australia after. london and australia were the only places they named.
R U SERIOUS!!!! OH MY GOD!!!! I LUV U MATTY! MMMMMWAA XOXOXO!!! WOOOOO HOOOOO!!!! YEEEEEAAAHHH BABY!!! Do you know when it's coming to Aus? Do you know if its the whole thing or an "adapted" verion?

"...But Kungurtseva reels off multiple fouettes and the tape is stopped so she can take a bow. The Jester, an abomination introduced to Swan Lake in Soviet times, extorts applause from the audience. The cuts don't help the storytelling, the production is bare bones and they go for the '50s-style happy ending.
The audience cheers like mad at the end. It's the Russian ballet, after all..."
Look, don't put any blame on me for this "Teeny bopper" craze! I've been into musicals my entie life, litterally! Wicked just happens to be one i havnt seen live because it's modern and not in Australia yet. You guys should be so thankful that you have experianced the OBC and even been to Broadway! All I've ever wanted was to go to New York and be apart of the musical theatre scene. I would live on the streets of New York to do so! So if my enthusiasum makes you belive I'm just a "Teeny bopper" following a craze, you have no idea who i am and know nothing about me! Just because I'm excited about it coming to Australia doesn't make me a stupid "leader" of this teeny bopper thing, i didnt even know teens were into this musical in America! There are litterally only a handful of teens in Aus who know of Wicked and that because I've been sharing my love for this musical with them. People should be glad younger generations are becoming interested in musical theatre, it's the best form of entertainment there is!!!! "sadiem100" You can just shutup because as i said before you dont know anything about me so dont go genralising that I'm just some teen following a craze because you dont know what the hell your talking about!
For your information lizziecurry I'm 16 and have a job which has paid for my laptop so that just goes to show how eaisly you've assumed that teenagers don't work for they're own possesions, and my parents are a whole different story!
"Ah, but it's all about the presentation... Consider how you come across here. It's all we've got to go by"
The way you present yourself (Your lame picture and your juvinile responses) arent doing you any favours what so ever, so I wouldn't talk about internet presentaion because as you said, its all we've got to go by!
There is a more than strong rumour going around that WICKED will open in Melbourne at Her Majesty's Theatre in March of 2007 (that's it to the left). I'll see you there!

I say if and when Wicked ever opens in Australia, I say there will be a 50/50 chance of if it will be Sydney or Melbourne.
Melbourne would proberly sell more tickets, but Sydney is proberly a better location for a slightly... err... 'more mainstream popular culture, less theatrical' type of show like Wicked or The Lion King, and then transfer to Melbourne when the steam finally runs out at Star Casino or a limited final hurruh. Or go on a National Tour if they producers can accept the facts that Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth don't tend to have large theatres (I was told that The Lion King isn't ever going to play in Brisbane simply because The Performing Arts Center (I think that is what it is called), the largest theatre in the city is still to small for such a show.
What can I say, Melbourne tends to be a little more... snobbish in its theatre going. By the same token, something like The Secret Garden or The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee couldn't of worked (as well) if it opened in Syd-en-ey first.
I don't mean to bag Wicked (though I cannot confess to having any great love for it), I just cannot think of a better word at this time of the night. Heck I don't even like The Secret Garden, lord knows why I am even using it for an example. Updated On: 3/19/06 at 07:11 AM
THE SECRET GARDEN opened in Sydney and (I think) played Brisbane before Melbourne. The Lyric Theatre in Brisbane, like the Festival Theatre in Adelaide has 2,000 + seats. Much the same size as the Regent in Melbourne (where THE LION KING is), but are far more workable spaces. The main problem with Adelaide and Brisbane (other than their small populations) is that the bigger theatres there also have to house the touring Oz Opera and Australian Ballet seasons
As I understand it WICKED is more or less confirmed for the Maj for March 2007.

aussie-elphie: I hope it opens in Australia. Got relatives out there who are big fans of the play. Have they ever staged a musical at the famous Sydney Opera House? Where did they stage Miss Saigon?

I think the closest the Sydney Opera House (Opera Theatre) has ever been to having a musical is the odd "Broadway Concert". The Drama Theatre at the Opera House has seen CHICAGO (1980's), COMPANY, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC and INTO THE WOODS, CLOSER THAN EVER and a few others.
MISS SAIGON was at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney for the best part of a year in the early 90's. A new production of SAIGON will open at Star City in Sydney early in 2007 prior to a national tour.
Thanks, alterego. Is the Saigon tour the same as the one in the UK or is this a regional/local production? Is there a website you can share for this tour?

Hey everyone, sorry i havnt replyd in a while, been extremely busy and havn't had any net time.
Testing1232: "I will buy you tix to see "Wicked" here in NYC for 30 straight days, if you switch places with us!! I will gladly move to Australia! I will gladly move to Australia!"
I WOULD LITTERALLY TRADE PLACES WITH U RIGHT NOW (if i wasn't only 16! DAMMIT!!!) Would you buy tickets for about 15 people for 1 day??? Or maybe 15 people's accomidation for 2 and a half weeks?? haha wow that would be something! i was soposed to go with my dancing school this year but we couldn't get enough people so im EXTREAMLY sad (i cried my eyes out!... as sad as that sounds, its ture!) We were going to see wicked and the backstage tour thing, hairspray, and spelling bee and do alvin ailey classes and perform at disney land and heaps more, but it just hasnt worked out this year
Dont take your cool yellow school buses and hotdog venders for granted! They're truely admired in my part of Sydney! :) haha
Aussie-elphie -- I do hope you get to make a trip to NY soon. I've been living here since 1989 and moved here from North Carolina (which seems about as far away from NY as Australia). It really is an exciting city and, if you love theatre, DEFINITELY a place you should visit ASAP. It sounds like the trip you had planned with your dance school would have been amazing.
I do agree that you'll get a chance to see Wicked in Australia soon. It has done so well that it's got to start having many more productions. Can you believe how the sales have been in London?!?!
Testing1232, you can swap places with me too! There's nothing on in Melbourne at the moment, New York sounds divine :)
And each time I think about it, I can't help but feel that the Maj would be waaay too small for a show like Wicked! But, either way, I don't care WHERE it is as long as we get it. It's already been six months since I last saw it
