I fear this will be another Diana. But as always, we shall see…

When I first heard a musical named "Diana" was in the works I thought it was about Diana Rigg and was totally interested. But when I found out it was about Diana the Princess I said Cheerie-Bye. My interest like probably most Americans in royalty is non-existent. Audrey Hepburn is really much better known than Diana Rigg and so one problem might be it turning out too conventional and uninteresting. Her story has been documented many times. Although it still might work with a great book but you can't just order them off the shelf. And, yes, it should be titled "Audrey".

My circle differs from yours, Sir. Do a person on the street survey asking the simplest of questions. Start with "Who's the Queen of England".
PERSONALLY, I've never understood Americans giving a hoot about the British Royals - But Highland Guy is right - LOTS of Americans did know who Diana was and cared a lot. They certainly know about her kids, their wives and THEIR children. Heck, her wedding was huge here....and William and Kate's wedding was watched by nearly 23 million AMERICANS.

Ha! We get constant news coverage over here about the royals.

You would be wrong. I could not care less about the broken, dysfunctional Royals. But, at least half of my friends and family are deeply into everything Royal. I will never understand.

I'm intrigued by a story that's somehow about Audrey Hepburn, William Holden, Ella Fitzgerald, Edith Head, Gregory Peck, Givenchy, Humphrey Bogart, Mel Ferrer, and Marilyn Monroe. Why those actors? How much of her life is it supposed to cover? I hope someone reports back.

I wouldn't be surprised if most of the big name characters just appear in one or two scenes as ensemble parts. The fact that Peck and Holden are mentioned alongside Hepburn seems telling - and it would make sense that Peck would have a bigger role because their Roman Holiday was the movie that won her her Oscar and solidified her as a star. Bogie and Holden were her co-stars in Sabrina, and Audrey won the lead role in Breakfast at Tiffany's over Monroe, so assuming they're going for a "greatest hits" approach to her film career those would seem like the big three to hit.
And, of course, Mel Ferrer was her husband.
I wondered about the connection to Ella Fitzgerald. A bit of Googling took me to this, which reminds me how very much I miss Audrey Hepburn.

The problem with any show about Audrey is that any actress playing her has to have that ineffable "Audrey" quality, and none of them has it. Remember when they remade "Sabrina," with Julia Ormond trying to stand in for Audrey. Well, it ended her career post-haste.

I had hoped for a show about Diana Ross. Never occurred to me that there might be a show about Diana Rigg, but that's a fun prospect, too. (I had no interest whatsoever in a show about Diana Spencer.)

Who is going to be cast to play Marni Nixon?

An actress in an ensemble track. Marni is quickly referenced in a musical number. In-n-out.
