I don't agree that it should only tour and not be here in NYC. With summer coming and folks coming from all over the country - I just think it's a lovely way to spend your holiday. Please, please join me in urging the producers to kee it open -- let's show them what regular people can do!

I only want to work on Little Women. I spent the night in one of the Alcott houses once. So it's a personal connection thing for me.

Yes, yes and yes!
Maureen McGovern isn't exactly a major ticket-selling star. You all know I love her, but let's get real.

i wonder where bs went and what her decisions were. i'm glad you liked concord! i love living here!
It's so sad that this show is closing. I was thinking about seeing it next month.
At least I'll get to see the tour when it comes to DC

apparently she is. she's a very big name to the 40 year old generation, who will all want to see her and want to take their kids to see this show. every adult i talked to about the show suddenly perked up when i said maureen mcgovern. i had never heard of her before and obviously respond more to sutton foster's name! haha... but they all were like "really, maureen mcgovern. she's amazing! the morning after..."

I'm in a fighting mood. this really pisses me off, when lovely shows get steam rolled by the likes of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (ugh!!!!) Let's start a riot as Jo would say!

I'm in the 40-year-old generation, and I barely heard her name mentioned in the past 20 years. Every adult that you know, is not every adult in America. Having a few hit songs 30 years ago is not going to sell major tickets.

Quick, call Bernadette Peters to play Marmee and Kristin Chenoweth to play Jo. It's the only way to save this show!

well, you're probably right rath, but i still feel she's a name that is going to sell tickets, bigger than sutton foster among the general public.

What a pity... At least I had the chance to see it on Broadway before it closes. Sutton is wonderful! I agree with most of you guys that thought Brooklyn would close first. But then again, I think the producers of Brooklyn were a little more aggressive with their marketing and publicity than LW. And so I guess, in any business that helps quite a bit.

I can't believe it! I just can't believe it... I... I'm so sad Sutton Foster is So Good. It would be so glorious if she would tour with it!
OMG..now the OBC might tour and I'll be sad cuz I won't be in the country when it comes to Chicago!! so I ONCE AGAIN won't get to meet Sutton...and all my friends will and will rub it in my face...ARHGGG
I can't believe so soon too
I'm so surprised. I really thought it would stay open until the Tony's. I won't get to see it now, and I'm loving some of the music on the cast recording. Gutted!

i'm so sad for the show, and for sutton.
i definitley thought "brooklyn" would go first. and the fact that it's SUCH short notice is so upsetting!
Finding - even if the show stayed open past the Tonys, no one would "hear" the show as it isn't nominated for Best Musical and therefore would not be performing. The only thing they might see (a big might) would be Sutton winning Best Actress, and that might generate sales, but there would be no scene performed. I think the producers realized correctly that Sutton will not be taking home a Tony for her performance. That one is practically a lock for Victoria Clark.
well, at least I can see it in San Diego in August

Am I missing something?
Were the fates of Little Women and Brooklyn intertwined somehow?

The Concord (MA) Players have done Little Women every ten years since 1952. I wonder if in 2012 they will do the musical?
I feel sorry for any Maureen McGovern fans who attend the show mainly on her name value thinking she has a lot more stage time than is given her. At least I knew beforehand when I saw the show that she had only one big song in the second act. Though most of us know the mother role in "Little Women" is a supporting role, I think they should re-think the tour version, expand her role, give her more songs and rename it "Little Women's Mother".Just kiddding but it would kind of be like touring the recent revival of "Nine" and advertising Chita Rivera as the star.

i think maureen's role is perfect as written and she was great in it and she was snubbed of a tony nom. she actually had a lot more stage time than i expected. everyone knows jo is the star, not marmee.
