I forgot about that. A lot of them were on book, though -- or, at least held them but only glanced every so often. I guess it's easier to be forgiving since they only rehearse a handful of times for those concerts. Of course, I have no other portrayal of Freddie with which to compare Adam's, but simply on the Adam Pascal acting scale, I thought it was damned good, and vocally, not too shabby either. But, you know, I'm biased.
The cast of this show was STELLAR. I remember it was the first time I ever heard or saqw Julia Murney, and I just walked out STUNNED. "Nobody's Side" was insane. And, it was actually the first time I saw anyone in this live except for Sutton, and everyone was incredible. I guess, as gorgeous as Groban's voice is, I was CRAZY about him, but that cast...wow. It was a GREAT performance.
I've seen a few outstanding Freddie's in my day and I wouldn't put Mr. Pascal in their company. I felt like he phoned his performance in and was too focused on trying to look suave and yelping out some of those ungodly high notes. My only problem with him carrying the book for "Pity The Child" was that Freddie has two big songs in the show and he couldn't get off book for that one. Most of the books were used for the quartet and for dialogue, which I had no problem with. To me it would kinda be like if Julia used her book for "Heaven Help My Heart" and Josh had used it for "Anthem". Plus, he didn't just glance at it periodically during "Pity..." but he pretty much read the whole thing straight from the book. I know, it's petty but it really bothered me for some reason. I know that they put it up rather briskly but I just felt like he didn't do his homework like the others had.

Well, like I've said, I'm not going to say your opinion is unfounded -- because honestly, even though I'm a huge fan of his, you aren't totally wrong. He's *always* focused on being suave. It's part of the whole... persona. He will admit that he has trouble remembering lyrics, so I guess it makes *sense* on such short time, but it's not exactly an excuse, and I recognize that. So I'm not exactly trying to defend him and say you're wrong... even though it probably looks a bit that way. :-/
I remember that bothering me too, WonderBoy. A lot. I wondered why everyone else could get off book for their big numbers and he couldn't....and Sutton was even off-book for her big number and she join what...a week and a half before the show went up?
Well, you know, if he can't remember the words to One Song Glory, which he's sung HOW many times... what do y'all expect? Come on, you're putting too much pressure on him!
There's a bootleg dvd out there. It's alright, but wish the actors would have studied their lines a bit better... do you hear me Adam Pascal?!
His gentle companion: Ha! If they only knew.

Agreed. I think Adam could have nailed it... but I got the impression that he phoned the whole performance in.

keggs...TONS of people. Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, Sutton Foster, Julia Murney, Carolee Carmello, Whoopee Goldberg, Spencer Kayden, LaChanze, Ana Gasteyer...I can't remember them all. If you look on ibdb.com, they should have a complete list.
Plus, there was the (usually) awesome scene of Freddie walking in at the end of Mountain Duet... and Adam Pascal totally screwed up the timing and messed up the entire orchestra- which had to actually STOP playing in order to give him time to finish his part. Did he even Show Up to rehearsals?

I'm not saying that Adam is God's gift to the acting universe, but let's cut the guy some slack. I know that almost everything I say will appear as though I'm making excuses for him, so I'll refrain from saying things that may come off as such (like "well, he was up there with some *serious* actors..."), and that what I say really has very little chance of looking like it's just an objective observation. But honestly, lay off the bashing of every little thing he did wrong.
I don't see anybody calling out Raúl Esparza's very obvious, blatant musical mistake.
