1000000% sad"
At least BJH has a sense of humour. I actually find it quite hilarious the idea of someone bumping a thread from 15 years ago desperately lamenting Bernadette wasn’t nominated with the same problem again.
I am unworthyyyyyy of your lovvvvvvveeee.
…
Yeah, you should be laughing at yourself a lot, like the rest of your life. Enjoy insulting Audra for the billionth time and attending Aussie MAGA rallies tho!!!

Robbed? Oh no. Was this at the condo she is trying to sell?
‘Enjoy insulting Audra?’ Excuse me there is almost no bigger fan of her performance in Gypsy than me on this forum and I have been passionately defending her vocals from literally day 1.
Yes I can laugh at myself of course I can. And I hope others can chuckle at the strange Bernadette obsessed poster too because it IS ridiculous. But this is the difference between you and others - others can find a way to make this fun, you seem to have a have a pathological need to try and make it personal, first saying that it’s ‘sad’ and now even making strange claims that my entire life is laughable, of which you know very little about. LOL. Look at the shows I have seen over the last 20 years. I can assure you I am having a great time :).
I have been on this board for a very, very long time and the bumping of this thread is unquestionably one of the funniest and most iconic moments ever

Dear Broadway producers,
Please cast Bernadette in a revival of Cats next year, just so we can all revive this thread again in 364 days.
Sincerely,
All of us.

Honestly I'd take her as Old Deuteronomy in Jellicle Ball if Andre can't do the transfer

did anyone else read, like, 2 pages of comments and wonder what the hell anyone was talking about (I literally ibdb'd Elena Roger while wondering if I lost my mind some point in the past 10 months) before seeing the date(s) on said comments? good times...

The campiest part of this thread is that binau is actually Cole Escola

I saw Old Friends when it played LA. It was fine. Nothing more, IMO.

I opened this thread thinking there is no way this could extend beyond a page or two...oh boy. Stop feeding trolls!

This thread, - all of it, even the mean spirited stuff - is hilarious. I even discovered that I wrote something serious on it in 2020 (only a couple of pages back).
So I’ll be foolish again at the risk of incurring the wrath of someone, or everyone. Here’s my ‘several things can be equally true’ thoughts:
- One of binau’s more endearing traits is their dedication to Bernadette Peters, not always blind to her faults but a big, obsessive fan nonetheless. Bringing this thread back today was brilliant.
- I know actors can be nominated for Tony Awards for their work in revues. But it feels weird to me. I decided to get tickets to Old Friends, and getting third-row seats after I initially was going to skip it, because I wanted to see Peters sing some of my favorite Sondheim songs - even though she’s 77 and apparently an inconsistent performer, even according to binau - because I have never seen her live in a Sondheim show. But I never really thought she should be nominated. Or Lea Salonga, for that matter. That honor should be reserved for people in regular plays or musicals.
- I may have caught Bernadette Peters on a good night, but I thought she was wonderful both as host and performer. Not perfect, but her ability to act a song was a special experience for me to witness. My wife and daughter, less biased than me, were impressed too. And there were a few moments, once in each act, when it felt like she was transported back in time.
Old Friends is such a good time, I’ve seen it twice already. So joyful. I went to a student matinee performance this week and the cast was on fire and the students were living their best life. Who cares about nominations when that kind of joy is in the theatre?

Just checking you are aware that it's 5 pages because it reflects comments over almost 15 years of Bernadette missing out on two nominations now (Follies, and Old Friends).
I think what I love about this thread is even the first post 'is this punishment for not going to LA?' it almost sounds like I'm referring to the LA Old Friends but of course, I'm referring to when Bernadette did not do Follies in LA (they replaced her with Victoria Clark, whose vocals were stunning.
Variety gave a particularly difficult review for Bernadette
Variety also the same magazine that gave one of Bernadette's biggest other pans:
Of course, I pretend these don't exist and prefer the NYT positive reviews of Bernadette's Gypsy, Night Music and Follies.
Bernadette was indeed woefully miscast in Follies. I need to see Kelli or Audra do Sally justice.
binau, I love your devotion to her. You keep on doing you. I am here for it.
I saw OLD FRIENDS last night and it’s as basic as basic gets, but at least they keep the songs coming, with no cringey vamping in between numbers. It sounded great too - “The Ballad of Sweeney Todd” literally sounded better than it ever did in the last Broadway mounting.
Sadly Beth Leavel was out (along with Kyle Selig). I was looking forward to see her take on Joanne.
I was particularly impressed with Lea Salonga’s “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” (channeling Merman! And doing it well!). Her Mrs. Lovett was wonderful, too.
But the night really peaked with Bernadette’s “Send in the Clowns.” She certainly didn’t deserve a Tony nomination this year, but getting to see her deliver that song again on Broadway was easily one of the highlights of the theatergoing season. Truly extraordinary. A master class, in every sense. She held the entire audience in the palm of her hand and left me with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes.
