I just got home and I'm dead tired, but a few quick thoughts:
-TON of Broadway community out to support this show tonight. I spotted Hunter Ryan Hedrilka, Aaron Simon Gross, Katie Finneran (to name a few), and the audience just ate this sucker up. The man next to me who mearly bought the ticket because it was $20.00 stated at the end that the producers have a hit on their hands. The creative team was gracious afterwards, and openly acknowledged the show needs tightening (might I add, THESE PEOPLE ARE GODS FOR THE SIMPLE FACT OF REALIZING THEY AREN'T PERFECT YET STILL STRIVING TOWARDS IT, unlike SOME idiots currently creating shows on Broadway (cough cough, Thomas Schumacher, Jerry Zaks, Rob Ashford, cough cough)).
-Now onto the show itself. The set is pretty much the same as the Public, with the crazy curtains, busts, paitings, and lighting extending far into the lobby. Most notable: they've hung a large stuffed horse upside down from the cieling near the mezzanine. The effect is stunning!
-Some tightening is definately needed, but for the most part they're certainly on the right track. LOVED the new members of the company, especially Kristien Nielsen as the new Story Teller. As I said, the audience ate it up, and the Cast Recording was selling like hot cakes in the lobby.
To sum up, right now, it's really good. It has the potential to be excellent, and thankfully both the audience AND the creators know this fact. I'll be excited to return later in previews and see how it's shaping up. Let the Broadway season officially BEGIN!
