BOEING BOEING opened on May 4; finally saw it tonight. And darlings, even though I was late in buying my plane ticket... the ride is still one helluva romp.
Tonight marked the 3rd performance by new-comers Greg Germann (as Bernard) and Missi Pyle (as Gretchen) and geezus! are they bustin' their chops! Exemplary act, specifically by Pyle, who fits her big busty glamazonian Deutchlandish caricature in there expertly with the others.
Christine Baranski is soaking wet in sarcasm. Love it! I want her wig, glasses and 3-piece ladymaid suit for Halloween. So slick and sassy and insanely real. Berthe's the kinda lass I totally want as my wing-man for uppity Williamsburg and Chelsea parties. We'd chew that bar to pieces! What a fun role for her Bway return. Paired with Rylance, they're an incredible force.
But my word... Mister Mark Rylance. How one can out-do themselves in this comical role is beyond me. He had the audience in the palm of his pitifully adorable dorkish hand within seconds... and we rode that tail-wind all night. What a smashing hilarious guy!!!
Noting its grosses were at about 70% last week, I bought a $20 obstructed view box-seat this afternoon... but was able to grab an empty seat in one of the 4 empty rows in the rear-orchestra before curtain. Updated On: 9/11/08 at 01:01 AM
Who is Paige Davis going to be playing? I love her, but I haven't heard anything about that.

A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!''
Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'

Even more specifically, an upper-Midwestern one. I thought he nailed the Wisconsin (Wisconsonian? Wisconsonite? Whatev!) inflections!
I think it was Wisconsin. Whatever it was, it was specific, and he got it. haha

I'm thinking about legally changing my name to Lizzie Curry...
I was asking as in London he did a brilliant Welsh accent. A very brilliant actor is our Mr Rylance!

"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
Eugene did you happen to notice in your playbill who is understudying the stewardess roles? I ask because the previous understudy, Roxana Hope, left the show on Sunday.
So is she going to be staying as the understudy or is she going to graduate to the role of Gloria when Kathryn Hahn leaves?
Also, I noticed in my A Man For All Seasons playbill that Ray Virta has joined that cast. Who is covering Bernard now? And is Peter Benson still on the cast board (as the Robert cover) because he is in To Be Or Not To Be now
I was just at the stage door again last night (Thursday). Gina IS leaving the show on October 5. I got this directly from her.
I also noticed that Kathryn had a bandaged right hand. I am not sure what happened.

Saw the show (again) this week. Greg Germann's pacing was a little off in Act Two, but he's an overall improvement from Whitford. And Missi Pyle was great fun; in Act One she's even crazier than McCormack in terms of accent and physicality. Rylance and Gershon are still perfection in their respective roles.
Tom Galantich now covers Germann. Ray Virta left to cover Langella in A Man for All Seasons. Jessica Bogart covers all three stewardesses but haven't heart anything about Hahn leaving. Can't remember the name of Rylance's new u/s. Check playbill.com.
Greg Germann was easily the weakest link in the production. I think this is mostly due to the fact that Bernard is the most poorly written character and there's not much that can be done with him.
Missi Pyle stole the show. Yes, even from Mr. Rylance. In my opinion.
