That's actually a very interesting observation, because it sounds like it was written with Michael Buble in mind, so you're probably not too far off!

While most of the musical numbers in Boop have a more jazz/big-band feel, Dwayne's track was crafted to be a bit different. "I took this opportunity to take a 'pop' approach just for this one song," Foster tells Parade. "It just felt like at that point in the show, it could handle a more modern-sounding track."- https://parade.com/entertainment/boop-the-musical-first-listen-she-knocks-me-out

^ That’s really interesting to read. I’ve seen the show a few times now and listened to the released tracks…a lot. I really can’t wait for the full thing, I just find this show to be totally joyous.

Interestingly, "She Knocks Me Out" was one of the two songs that was added during the Chicago run.  The other was a re-written finale, so this was the only song that fully added a scene to the show.  I found the song to be great fun and was sorely needed for the character.

I couldn't agree more. I really can't remember the last time I've genuinely loved so many shows in a single season, but Boop is one that I left with my heart rate up and gushing to anyone who would listen. It's just pure Broadway joy, and everything that makes me love musical theatre. Very excited for this full recording, and thanks for the heads up about the new track drop!

Between "Where I Wanna Be", "Something to Shout About" "Why Look Around the Corner" and "She Knocks Me Out" it seems the composer as a rare gift of knowing how to make a [Merrily]Humm-am-am-am-am-able Melody[/Merrily].

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

This week, we've had so many trailers (Wicked, Spider Woman, Frozen), plus tomorrow's cast albums (Boop, Dead Outlaw single, F*ck7thGrade, Buena Vista Social Club, Heathers Deluxe, Real Women Have Curves), solo albums (Cynthia Erivo, Renee Elise Goldsberry), and then the Tonys on Sunday... WOW!

I'm listening to this music and I'm just not getting why there's so much hate for this show? I don't get it? I've been going to the theatre for over forty years. This show is waaaaaaay far for some of the worst pos I've seen on stage in the last few decades. Are people just a holes now and everything has to be serious and have deep meaning? F that! Not all the time, thank you. There's room for everything. The world is a sh*t show and I want some fun every once in a while. This music is a pure delight. 'Why look around the corner" is my favorite and when the cast sings it together it's just theatre bliss. There, I said it! I'm so happy I saw the show for the third time a few weeks ago. I pray this show goes on tour and succeeds. It deserves it.

Everyone obviously thinks of "A Little Versatility", "Where I Wanna Be", "Where Is Betty?", and "Something to Shout About" when they think of the score, but I had forgotten how good songs like "My Hero" and "Portrait of Betty" are. I don't necessarily LOVE Angelica Hale's performance as Trisha, but the actual writing of the latter song is so smart.

What a shame that Boop didn’t get a slot at the Tonys- Jasmine deserves a showcase on national TV- she sounds fabulous. This is one of the best OBCR I’ve heard in a long time.

Completely agree - Portrait of Betty is (to me) the entire thesis of the show. I think mining all of the Betty Boop shorts for these empowering moments is not only so smart, but it connects the modern day audience to Betty as a symbol in the present day, and correctly contextualizes what she should mean to 2025. And I love that Trisha doesn't know she's saying all this to the actual Betty Boop. I just love this show so, so much.

I'm surprised this show did not catch on with families as an alternate from Aladdin & Lion King. It's cute and fun with great performances especially Jasmin as Betty, costumes, choreo!
