Mom is coming into town next month and just looking for a hotel room for one night. Does anybody have any suggestions of cheaper($150 or below) hotels/motels near the theater district? If not near times square, perhaps something close to a subway stop. Thanks!

You can try the YMCA on the Upper West Side on 63rd and CPW. I have never stayed there personally but I have a friend who stays there once a year for about a week or so. He says the accomodations are basic but clean and the location is amazing. He pays about 120 per night though I do believe that depends on what time of year you go.

Both of the Pod Hotels (39&51) are favorites of some friends. Not sure what they run, but it should be around there.

Okay it's south but the Jane hotel on 14th is brilliant. It's $125 this time of year cheaper spring and winter. Clean charming and a short stroll to the subway at 8th for a short ride up to times sq.

Pattilupone I remember warning you about that hotel and you said it was fine. Glad you figured it out.
Anyway, I would suggest Mayfair Hotel on 49th St next to Book of Mormon.

I actually stayed at the Mayfair in 2013. However, there was one aspect of the hotel I didn't really care for. Let's just say...Trekkie Monster would be disappointed.

So you're saying you couldn't watch porn when you were there or that there was no wi-fi? I'm confused by you're statement here.

Sorry but nothing is cheap in the theater district as most hotel rates are $265+ a night and that includes the Mayfair!

Try the Row. It's on 8th and 44th, and depending on the night, you can grab a really great deal.
Here's another hint. Act like you're going to book the room, put in your email address and name, and then stop. Usually they will email you a 25% off code within the next couple of days to encourage you to complete your reservation.

It depends on what day you access the booking as well. Tuesdays and Wednesdays will offer the cheapest prices, regardless of what nights you actually want to stay. And the Mayfair is good for Lucy T. Slut activities and Trekkie Monster activities :)

The Local NYC in Queens. It's a hostel but has private rooms for under $150. It's super clean and about a year old. Taking the E into Manhattan takes about 5 to 8 minutes.

When I was traveling in to work in NYC every two weeks, I would use Priceline. I would only go for 3 star and above and didn't pay more than $130. It was a few years ago but still was the only way I could afford it and I had to stay in the Midtown zone for work.

The Row is the old Milford Plaza only rennovated. Rooms are incredibly small, Priceline has the nerve to rate this a 4 star hotel.

Keep in mind a lot of the low rates you'll find online (including some of the aforementioned places here) are "shared bathroom" rates. If a private, in-room bath is important, make sure you read the fine print.

I always use Hotwire. When my mother came to visit a few weeks ago, I used Hotwire and got a 4 star boutique hotel for $130. If I would have booked directly from the hotels website, the room would have been around $480 For that night.
I know a lot of people don't like to use Hotwire because you don't know what you're getting until after you purchase, but I've always gotten very nice hotels for very little.

The Local NYC only has in room bathrooms and showers for less then the OPs budget.

Actually the Jane is on Jane St, not 14th. And it is 8 blocks from the nearest subway, which would be 14th and 8th.
