I’m curious if they’re any who won the Tony for best musical and still closed at a loss. Or is the win typically a sure to capitalize for the show
I recall it took years for Memphis to recoup its investment. It opened in fall 2009, won the Tony in June 2010, and recouped in July 2012.
Gentleman's guide took 17-18 months to recoup. I think other winners this past decade were able to recoup within a year.
I don't remember Millie recouping.

There actually have been quite a few, although far less in recent years. Millie, Titanic, Sunset Boulevard, Passion, Spider Woman, Edwin Drood, Hallelujah Baby, Raisin, and the original Sweeney (and probably some others I'm forgetting) all closed their original productions in the red.
I could be wrong but I don't think Moulin Rouge has recouped as of yet.

As of yesterday, MOULIN ROUGE had returned 70% to its investors. http://broadwayjournal.com

Actually, it'snot clear when Memphis recouped. With the exception of the Chicago Tribune all sources, state only that Memphis "will recoup" by its Aug. 5 closing. It likely recouped in August, if not its final performance.
