I haven't seen any photos of Bette at the event yesterday, but I did see Creel, Baldwin & Zaks. Did she not attend?

I don't know about Bette, but I wanted to add that David Hyde Pierce was also there!

Yes, you're right! Just seems odd that she would miss the event. She could be nervous about missing a show and is laying low.

Bette has made it clear she will not be doing interviews or making peesinal appearances to promote the show. I guess this falls into that category.

Kind of bums me out that she wouldn't attend the nominees event. Bette will be fine, but I feel like if other nominees did this there would be more of a backlash.

I don't think there'd be any sort of backlash if anyone skipped any of the myriad pre-Tony events.

It's possible it could harm someone else, but probably only because some people's chances are improved by the shmoozing and working the circuit - and perhaps, if Reidel decided to make a huge deal of it.
But in Bette's case, she safe. And everyone knows carrying a show this size for 7 shows a week is a lot and is giving a str of her size a pass, letting her have her days off.
And come to think of it, I think Scott Rudin has done a brilliant job creating hype for the show without its star giving any interviews or appearances. Usually that's your biggest weapon.

I thought the same thing.

No, Bette did not attend. Nor did Kevin Kline.

It's always been strange to me that the nominee event isn't on Thursday. I'm not surprised someone like Bette who's so meticulous in her preparation didn't want to spend hours talking before a two show day.

I'm an idiot - didn't realize that it falls on a two show day (Wednesday). They really should move it to Thursday.

She needs all the rest she can get. Hello Dolly must have used up all her energy. And at 70, she needs all the rest she can get to deliver a fab show.

I remember that Neil Patrick Harris didn't attend press day either the day after he got nominated for Hedwig.

And what's wrong with being 70?

Nothing. I hear it's an excuse for skipping chores. I'll find out for sure in seven years.

I will never understand why the Tonys almost always schedule the Press Day on a Wednesday, when most performers have 2 shows to do. This giant media gang-bang is roughly held between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and I've attended my share of them in the past. It used to be more casual, and you could walk up to nominees and chat. Now, I hear it's much more formalized and set up like a press conference, where various outlets get to ask a single question. Zzzzzzzzz.

That is very funny. But seriously.. anyone know the reason they schedule this on a Wednesday? A two show day?

Random tangent, in light of the Tony's are there certain days you would avoid seeing a show because the performers might be a little tired from doing press, or alternately, certain days when you would expect more energy from the performers or the audience (e.g. right after a win)?

Most actors will try to be there in this period because voters are often in the audience. And yes the atmosphere the first show after the Tonys for shows that won major awards is often great. I've heard the Sunday matinees the day of the Tonys can be special too.

Thanks. I'm trying to decide when to go back to Great Comet. I already have a ticket for Dave Malloy but I'm trying to decide when would be the best time to see Josh (I doubt he's expecting to win, but the show has a good chance) or if I should just wait for Oak.
