It's a toss-up between Great Comet closing and Hello Dolly at the Tonys (performance choice and the appropriateness of Midler's acceptance speech, the latter of which was a HUGE DEAL to really old-school highly conservative closed-minded Tony purist marms and their grandmothers).

Hello Dolly's Tony performance was a big one for me. (Will they? Won't they??) So was SITPWG pulling themselves entirely out of consideration.

-Rapp/Spacey situation (both were on Broadway at the time)

-Tom Wopat arrest (albiet not Broadway)

-Riedel leaving Theater Talk

-current casting director situation

-Patti Murin's performance being embraced by people who post here

It's gotta be the Comet controversy. That was intense.

Things with potential impact 5/10 years from now -

- Rapp/Spacey allegations and eventual consequences.

- Casting directors unionizing controversy

- The way race relations in America played into Great Comet's closing



Honorable mention - When Pigs Fly cancellation. We get one-two of these somewhat highly covered shows every year where finances fall through.
