Been hearing the film adaptation of Spring Awakening is starting production in March with Billie Eilish attached as Ilse. Is this true?

Yes, same producer as Barbra's Gypsy and Toni's N2N

I don’t hate the idea of her singing “Blue Wind”, but who knows if she can act.

This seems like a really strange stunt cast and I can't imagine it'll have the effect that they think it will. She is very talented, though.

It’s going to be a double feature at drive ins with Glenn Close’s Sunset Boulevard. Both films are being produced by Lifetime Television For Women

I hadn't heard that casting news. But I did hear that they were going into pre-production in Jan and it is for a major streaming service.

Billie Eilish as Ilse in Spring Awakening, what a brilliant casting choice. I mean, who wouldn't want a brooding pop star with no acting experience to take on a pivotal role in a beloved musical? I don't know how I can see Billie as an actress, but she and her brother Finneas are AMAZING songwriters! It would be so cool if the two of them wrote a score for the stage.

Billie just had a small acting role on Amazon's "SWARM". She played a cult leader for an episode and gave a rather solid performance and even got some nice notices in official reviews. It certainly made me more interested in what else she could do acting-wise.

I think Eilish would make a fine Ilse-- and would definitely put butts in seats for a movie that would be a bit of a hard sell...

also even if she was middling why must we always pretend that some roles require more than that. spring awakening doesn’t exactly scream out for a young meryl type.

Nobody. This has been in development hell since 2009 when an adaptation directed by McG was inexplicably announced.
