All fans of the Broadway musical, and Broadway history will be thrilled to hear that a very famous 1972 made for television/live presentation starring Liza Minnelli fully staged for a live theater audience and filmed by Bob Fosse has been restored, and will be seen again. Of course, we are hopeful for the DVD, so we can all see it soon. It is set to air on Showtime later this year.

A DVD with extras is scheduled to come out after the Showtime airings.
I feel like I've been waiting for this my entire life.
Guess I will keep that premium channel after all!
You guys never saw "Liza with a Z"??
Well, Mr.Jim, not all of us were lucky enough to be around at that time. I should've known you saw Liza with a Z, what haven't you seen? I am so upset, you're such a lucky person! I am so excited about the DVD, this is Liza right after Cabaret, I mean she was in her prime. How much fun!
Ray, I wish I could have taken you with me to see her in Concert 2 weeks after "Liza with a Z" in person - I was sitting next to Desi Jr., whom she was dating at the time. You would have loved the old days! (And the old Liza wasn't too bad either, LOL!)
You saw Liza in person 2 weeks after Liza with a Z??? Now, I'm even more upset, lol. I wish I could have seen her the way she was back then, with that elegant air, dancing her heart out, and in my opinion her voice was better than it is today. You're a lucky, lucky man Mr.Jim.
The really cool thing Ray, was that she opened her nightclub show with "Yes" (Same as in Liza with a Z) and, of course did "Liza with a Z' as well as "Bye Bye Blackbird" & "God Bless the Child" (also from Liza with a Z) and she had 2 girl back up dancers and performed in a NIGHTCLUB, a fancy one, yes, but NOT a big Stadium, so you could see her, hear her and even take a picture if you wanted. It was another era indeed. You'll love "Liza with a Z". I also have her on video somewhere in "Liza & Goldie" which she did on TV with Goldie Hawn, That was too cute and they do "All That Jazz" as the finale! There was an even earlier TV special she starred in but it was an abiguous time in her career, After Judy but before Fosse and it wasn't my favorite Liza time, I'm not a big "Sterile Cukoo", "Charlie Bubbles" or "Tell me that you love me Junie Moon" fan. Fosse was the best thing to nab her after her Mom. Talent came naturally to her, she just needed direction & grooming - That is where Garland & Fosse came in.

Liza Minnelli and Fosse were indeed one of the best director/actor match. Both are/were geniuses in their respective areas, and it is known that Liza had a way to deal with Fosse like no one else did. I have often wondered what would have happened if Goldie Hawn and Liza Minnelli had done the Chicago film, although Fosse wanted Madonna as Velma, I believe. So Goldie would have been gone. Still, another Fosse film starring Minnelli would have been probably one of the biggest masterpieces in terms of movie musicals. Unfortunately the Liza-Scorsese match only ended up in what I consider a tragic end in the personal level and on the screen it isn't quite as magical, I've heard Scorsese didn't do wonders on stage either.
I was only 10 at the time of the airing if Liza with a "Z." I look forward to the the relase of this one of a kind event.
Liza With A
It's pretty fabulous. She was somethin' else.
Foose won the Tony, Oscar and Emmy that year
Those drugs were kickin in
I remember that year very clearly
LIZA with a Z is a study in Genius
I was listening to this the other night and Liza was sooooo young, I could hardly recognize her voice from way back then, It was very strange.
