Next month I was going into the city, I live in CT, and wanted to try my luck at BOM.
For standing room I've heard different policies, do I have to get there early in the morning or two hours before curtains open? Or is it better to try my luck at another show?
I've done standing room several times, if you're planning on doing a weekday, you should be fine getting to standing room line somewhere between three to four hours prior to the time of tickets being given out. On weekends, the matinee line begins to start forming somewhere around nine-ish, and they begin selling the tickets an hour before the show.
I've done standing room for a Saturday matinee, got there around nine thirty-ten o'clock and was fourth in line. Also, when you're in standing room, you're given the option to enter the lotto, as well.

Thank you!! I may do that. My friend wants to do the evening show but he can't make it into the city until later, and I'd guess SRO for a Saturday night is probably difficult.
You're welcome. SRO for the evening is usually a little difficult, but if you get there around say three or four, you should be fine. It's a little bit of a wait, but you can easily sit and just kill time any number of ways. Helpful tip - bring someone with you, even if they're not seeing the show, that way you have someone to keep you company or hold your place for food or bathroom breaks.

Actually....you can just chat up the people around you in line. They too will hold your place in line.
(I'm still in contact with someone from the Far East that I met on line for BOM)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Those are both pretty good ideas! I met some pretty cool people in the rush line for Rock of Ages and Bring it On.
OK so I will go back to the city another weekday for SRO, and then maybe for the weekend in May I am going do Rush for Jersey boys? Any other easy evening rushes you recommend?

This show is totally random sometimes. One lovely day last Spring, I walked by the theater at like 4:30p, and saw two people sitting there, and was like "Is this the standing room line?!" since it was usually long-since filled by then, so I sat down and had a great night.
Even better was moving up to a third row aisle after a flustered religious couple bailed on their premium seats after Hasa Diga...
Has anyone seen a SRO line for a Saturday matinee recently? I'm hoping to go in late May but trying to convince my friends to sit and wait in line with me for a few hours might not go over very well. I read on previous sites that 9am is usually a safe bet, but can anyone confirm this if they've experienced a Saturday matinee line recently?
Once you pick a day after schools start letting out, that may render any current timing null and void, since the tourist quotient increases significantly... especially before the city becomes an oven.
Yeah, sometimes the weather can make people want to do stuff other than be in a line, but that same weather can also prompt people to get in line because it's not unbearably hot or cold. It can vary a great deal.
But 9 a.m. for a Saturday might be okay. If your friends don't want to be there the entire time, you guys can switch off as long as you keep the number of people constant.

Yeah we realized too late that the weekend we booked the trip for is Memorial Day weekend. Explains why bus prices are so high too... But regardless, I'm dying to see BOM and I'm willing to wait from early in the morning. There will be 3 of us so that makes switching off a little more complicated. Hopefully we can work it out somehow, I don't want to leave NY without seeing it.
If you are waiting for 3 tickets, you must have 2 people wait. The policy is 2 per person, and if only 1 person waits in line to claim 3 tickets, no one in line, including the Lottery Dude who semi watches over it, will allow that.
