I have no clue how some shows are going to make it past the winter.

Oh dear. Hair keeps slipping. 71.9% capacity?
So happy for next to normal. I can see this lasting for quite a while.

They've recouped though, right? So it's not quite as dyer if they're not doing spectacular, since anything at this point is just a gain?
I'm really glad to see that Next to Normal is doin' good :) Hope it keeps it up so that it can stay on Broadway for a good long time! It's actually already exceeded my expectations (I had been really worried it would only last a few months in this economy), so yay!

Recouped the investment, but they still need to run the production and meet the weekly nut. If they don't, they lose money. So not everything is a gain.
With those grosses, West Side and Hair may have a tough time getting through Fall and Winter. Even if both shows are paid off, they're not going to keep them running if they're consistently having losing weeks. With the large casts in both, I can't imagine they're too cheap to run like, say, Next to Normal.
I am sure $996,234 meets West Side's weekly nut.

Just waiting for Shreks closing announcement..
I image so snotty, but I can only see the grosses going down from here.
And I wonder if Dreamworks is just taking the losses on this one. They aren't in a standard investor situation, so they can keep it running as long as they want with their studio money.

why do you say that? love or hate the show, i imagine nearly all the shows will see a boost from the holidays.
the spring, i would agree, is another matter altogether.

Yikes "Shrek" and "Hair!" I've never seen such a low gross for "Hair." "Shrek" may go up next week due to the Colombus Day weekend, but they to start picking up steam ASAP!
Out of curiosity, why is the average ticket price for Wishful Drinking so low?
I hate to be all doom and gloom, but I really don't see how Shrek can last past January. They've gotta be bleeding money.

They opened on Sunday, so there were a lot of comps factored in.
I'm guessing Wishful Drinking's average ticket price is low because of the numerous comps for opening week. Also, while HAIR is slipping, I don't think it should have a problem lasting through the new year. The cast is large, but aside from that, the production is pretty basic. I doubt their nut is much higher than $400,000-$500,000 a week.
Yeah, I saw Wishful Drinking Saturday, having gotten a ticket for $10 after seeing a Facebook Hiptix discount, which was available until Sunday, in addition to a big chunk of the rear mezz (at least) being comped.
Pretty full house, though.

I also see Shrek closing in the winter. I think that it will get a small boost from the holiday season, with all the current promos out there.
Wishful Drinking could also be lower because are preview performances of shows lower in price that the normal run?
Oh dear. Hair keeps slipping. 71.9% capacity?
But their average ticket price is $90.56 which is way above average. The average ticket price for all shows with eight performances last week was $82.51, so Hair is above average for now and probably staying well in the black.
Don't most shows close in October or January? So it's almost safe to assume that Shrek is sticking around at least until January? Or every day that goes by, the chances are higher at least?
No, Shrek, or any show, can close at any time. There is no exact date. Most shows close in January because of the dreary winter season after the holidays and they are too much in the hole.
Many show will try to hang on during the fall so that they can reap the benefits of the Holiday Cash In. They make gads of money from Thanksgiving through New Years.
And while there's no guarantee...I would think most shows that make it through THIS month without a closing notice are almost a sure thing to make it through the first week in Jan.

ahh very true, I forgot about that part haha.
But still, it doesn't seem like it's a super expensive show to run, and they're still doing very well gross wise, so it seems like they should be just fine for a good while :)
Wishful Drinking's average ticket price will also be fairly low because many of the tickets are sold to subscribers at a significant discount. Which is also why After Miss Julie, Bye Bye Birdie and The Royal Family have fairly grosses based on the potential in their respective theaters.
