"I feel Honeymoon can find an audience if it can hang on a few weeks."
They couldn't find an audience during some of the best weeks of the season when the city was flooded with tourists looking to see a show. I doubt that reviews will help them find an audience during some of the slowest weeks of the season.

call_me_jorge: not 2 to 1 - 2.7 to 1.6.
What a difference a week makes

Posted: 1/12/15 at 10:34pmI saw it on Saturday and it was sold-out looking. So def. papering, so word-of-mouth should be getting out. I think it's a cute show and I could see it running the same Dirty Rotten. Not a runaway hit, but doing moderate business and spurring regional shows, etc. I feel like they should have just changed the whole name of the show. it's not like it's a movie most of us know, and they didn't exactly cut and paste the movie on stage, so why not mess with it some more? Not to give away a spoiler, but there's not really even a honeymoon... so ... it seems odd?

Posted: 1/12/15 at 11:17pmPootie2, several shows have closed in previews. The most famous example is Breakfast at Tiffany's, which was cancelled by David Merrick for being excruciatingly boring.

Posted: 1/13/15 at 1:11amI think Honeymoon may prove a "hit," but a long term investment. It'll be a hit with the regional theaters. It's easy to market. It's easy to produce. Not a lot of special effects or anything, and the 3 leads would be easy to cast.

Yes. Not recently but yeah. Google it.
RippedMan, please never use Dirty Rotten in the same sentence as Honeymoon ever again. There is no comparison. Please stop acting like you know what you're talking about.

Posted: 1/13/15 at 1:47pmAgain, Mormon had 9 shows the previous week, and 8 shows this week. So you aren't accounting for an entire extra show.

And YOU do know what you're talking about. Alright. That seems fair.

Posted: 1/13/15 at 3:11pmIt's true, though. There is simply no comparison to be made. DRS is miles above and beyond HONEYMOON in respect to the writing, the production, the talent, etc.

Posted: 1/13/15 at 3:13pmWhile DRS is a better show, Honeymoon did remind me of it.

Please message me the factual evidence that proofs this statement... and do not skimp on the "etc."

Thanks, fascinating stuff. 3 previews! People talk about actual running shows losing everything upon closing, but these must be the true baseline of losses... I tried looking up producer information for those listed but didn't get far (just curious if they tried to produce anything after such failures); Tandent died without going further than The Little Prince, for example. It seems to me that something catastrophic like this would be enough to truly ruin someone. Not the actors, though.

Posted: 1/13/15 at 3:20pmIf you're asking for "factual evidence," compare the DRS box office numbers to the HONEYMOON box office numbers. Also, compare the critics' reviews of the original DRS out-of-town tryout to the HONEYMOON out-of-town tryout. Begin there.... then we'll talk.

Oh so there's a correlation between ticket sales and quality of show. That makes sense. And of course the correlation between critic's opinions and quality of show. All of the factors that tell us how to form an opinion about a show...

Posted: 1/13/15 at 5:05pm...you're giving your opinion about the shows. There is not set and stone answer to "which show is better than the other." Frankly, why does it matter? They're both entertaining pieces of theater.. that should be enough. Or maybe they're not entertaining pieces of theater... solely your opinion, no FACTS whatsoever.

Posted: 1/13/15 at 5:14pmYou asked for facts. The only way to substantiate if one piece is 'better' than another is to look at it from a business perspective; to view it as a commercial or financial property. That is the only way to accurately measure success through a predetermined set of rankings & statistics. Anything else is opinion and conjecture. Not, as you previously requested, "factual evidence."
#48Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 1/11/15
Posted: 1/13/15 at 5:22pmThere's this thing called sarcasm. I'm aware there is no factual evidence that can be produced to demonstrate which show is better... hence why I asked for it when you said the following: "There is simply no comparison to be made. DRS is miles above and beyond HONEYMOON in respect to the writing, the production, the talent, etc." THIS is an opinion, and therefore it does not have factual evidence. Furthermore, this opinion ultimately has no meaning to anybody but yourself. You enjoyed DRS better than HMIV... good for you! But to say it like it's (and should be) the end all opinion for everyone is ridiculous. You go out there, people, and make all the comparisons you want!

First off, thanks for thinking my opinion is gold, but it's just my opinion. I happen to love DRS and think it's a fantastic show. I thought Honeymoon kind of reminded me of it. That's basically all I said. They both have fantastic leading men, and two leading men you'd rather not hear sing, and a great role for a female. I think Scott would kill this part, but I know she's too old for it at the moment.
So calm the hell down. K. Thanks. :)
