I think most are in agreement that the production won't go beyond Josh Groban's contract and tickets are still only on sale through January 14. Could they be waiting until early November to announce the production's future to get the holiday & closing demand going?"
There have been reports on here that they are trying to secure star replacements. But unless it's people equal to or greater than Josh Groban (and reaching a somewhat different audience), it seems like a fool's errand to replace. Unless Seller wants to burn up any profits made by JG's run.

Maybe Jordan Fisher can replace Groban.

Tveit and Sutton are the names being floated right now. I heard they already signed.

That would be surprising, but so was Groban and Ashford.

Sutton is in Once Upon a Mattress at Encores in January. Even for a pro like her, that’s a heavy lift back to back. For that timing to make sense, Ashford would need to extend.

HIGHLY doubtful (given that Foster has Once Upon a Mattress in January/February).

Just confirmed that Sweeney Todd will keep running after Groban and Ashford leave on January 14.

I'd love to be proven wrong if the rumor is true, but I cannot picture Tveit as Sweeney. Not at all.

Tveit??? Snore. Boring. Completely blah.
Christian Borle & Sutton Foster would be dynamic. To ex’s on stage together…fireworks!

Let's just surround Sutton Foster with exes, family, and past costars.
Bobby Cannavale as Sweeney
Christian Borle as Pirelli
Jen Cody & Hunter Foster as Joanna & Antony
Marc Kudisch as the Judge
Roger Bart as the Beadle
Beth Leavel as Beatrice Stockwell as the Beggar Woman
