It is a record. $3 million is amazing. Plus, I'm happy to see those big numbers for 'Cinderella'.

Also Wicked with those figures, would do more in merchandise than a small Broadway show.

The average ticket price is crazy. A friend is a partner in a big law firm and recently took his family (4 kids) to NYC and wanted to see a show. He heard The Book of Mormon was good. He nearly fainted when the total ticket price came to more than $1,500. Needless to say, the family did not see The Book of Mormon. I'm continuously impressed that show (and others) can sustain these ticket prices. That's not cheap, even if you make a really good living.

Glad to see Mamma Mia hit the million dollar mark again.

Annie had 9 performances last week, not 8, which would put it's capacity at 103.4%, not 116.3%.

I always thought it was just this site that made errors like that, but I see now the error comes straight from the Broadway League. I mean I actually didn't know that Annie had 9 performances, but it must have had since there's no way there are at least 233 standing room spots...

Surprised whoever works at the Broadway League doesn't pick up on errors like that before they release the grosses. Not to mention the earlier error that had Mormon at only 91.2% capacity when the show's first two weeks were the only weeks it has ever been below 100%...

While I totally agree with you, I think it was referring to 6 tickets, not 4 - 4 kids,and then I assumed 2 adults. Still if you look at deals and order ahead, you can do a lot better for sure. But why not...if that's the price that's being charged and people are paying, you could spend your money on a lot less deserving items.

That said, if I was looking for a show for my entire family, I don't think I would pick Book of Mormon...LOL He may have lucked out - didn't sound like he did his homework with anything. I LOVE Book of Mormon but it would not be the first show I would think of to share with my fam.

^^It was for 6 tickets. Oh no, he didn't do his homework. He's your typical out-of-town tourist who heard it was a good show and looked up tickets on Telecharge before he left. Most people aren't aware of online discounts, rush and other things except for TKTS and the popular shows are never on TKTS. I'm not saying they shouldn't charge it if they can make it, but I'm impressed so many people can afford it! (I need a new job, clearly.)

Yes, WICKED's numbers are fantastic. But do remember it played nine performances so did it really break its own record? An earlier poster said its previous record was 2.8 million. So if you divide last week's total by nine (or the 2.8 million by eight), you roughly get an approximate average box office take of $352,000+ for each performance. Add this amount to 2.8 million and you get around $3,152,000. The number for last week was $3,201,333 (with premium seats always a cause for fluctuation). So although it was an incredible amount, it's no more impressive than its previous sold out week of eight performances scoring $2,800,000. The only true record changer here would be if the previous 2.8 million dollar record reflected a nine week performance schedule but I doubt this highly.

Good for Wicked! May it still be selling this strong at 20! Like it or not, Wicked has struck a nerve and has found it's audience. In a few years we will have mother's bringing their children to the musical that got them interested in Musical Theatre. What a beautiful thing! Look at Wicked, if you will, as the gateway drug.
