Posted: 4/5/10 at 3:28pmGlad to see the amount of shows that are getting up there to the top! The Lion King was soooo close to beating out Wicked's box office this week. The Miracle Worker had a great jump (compared to last week's numbers) for its closing weekend.

Generally a great week. But the gross at NIGHT MUSIC falls dramatically whenever CZJ is away. This will not bode well for an extension past the end of her contract.
Nice bumps for NEXT TO NORMAL and HAIR!
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Posted: 4/5/10 at 3:29pmSo glad for HAIR! Hopefully this week will be good too as schools are just starting their spring break in NJ. All I know, is that I'm excited to see again(3rd time) on Friday!

Posted: 4/5/10 at 3:45pmWhat a great week! Except Night Music, but that was expected.

Posted: 4/5/10 at 3:46pmThe drop in Night Music's gross should silence all those who thought the show would still sell with someone like Marin Mazzie in the role of Desiree.

Posted: 4/5/10 at 3:50pmi know the average ticket price is lower than usual, along with the gross, for ALNM, but I was there this week and the house was PACKED.. i counted 5 empty seats.. dont know how many were TDF's and what not but eventhough Catherine brings in the money I really think it could have a nice little run after they leave.. the production is amazing

Posted: 4/5/10 at 4:56pmI ask this question every eight weeks. Is Rock of Ages close to recouping? It is celebrating its one-year anniversary now. Seems like recouping should at least be a possibility.

Posted: 4/5/10 at 5:13pmLooks like the Broadway Theatre wasn't too big for "Promises, Promises." The holiday might've helped also, but I'm glad it had a strong first week. Yeah for "Mary Poppins" and "In the Heights." Good for "Hair" for having a strong week. Updated On: 4/5/10 at 05:13 PM

Posted: 4/5/10 at 5:39pmAlso remember that New York high schools were on spring break this week, so there was bound to be a jump. The good weather didn't hurt either.

Posted: 4/5/10 at 5:41pmI'm curious to see if Promises will keep this up or if the first week was mostly vultures, Wicked, and Just Jack! fans.

this is great to see!
good for HAIR! will this be consistant? is it due to the names people know who are in it?
glad for all the jumps.
i have never followed the grosses until recently, so am wondering is this a time of year to see an increase typical?

Posted: 4/5/10 at 9:38pmAs you can see from previous posts, it was spring break for many students causing the rise in many of the shows.

Who is the audience exactly for Promises, Promises?
And I'm a little worried about American Idiot...

Posted: 4/5/10 at 11:45pmI've noticed this a few times, but if The Lion King(Minskoff Theater) doesn't have SRO, how can they sell more seats than what's at capacity??
#20Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/4
Posted: 4/6/10 at 2:26amMaybe it's wheelchairs or something? I'd bet Lion King is a popular trip among senior centers, and I'm sure they occasionally get people who can't use a regular seat.

"As you can see from previous posts, it was spring break for many students causing the rise in many of the shows."
yes i am aware of that. i am just asking if this is ALWAYS suthe trend. are there certain times other than spring break that sales go up? Christmas, summer....
I want the sales for Next Fall to go up.
#22Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/4
Posted: 4/6/10 at 9:29am^ About Next Fall, I'm worried about it too. It's sales are around the same as Looped and that's closing on Sunday. I dunno....I mean, I don't particularly care if Next Fall stays open. It was good but nothing astonishing, in my opinion.
