Wonder if Hair will close even sooner then the predicted September.
^ From what I've heard, they have a pretty good advance for the summer and it's weird because they just entended ticket sales until October 10th on Saturday.
Some surprising dips for shows.

This is my first time actually looking at these grosses and now I'm scared for Hair. Maybe an entire new cast was a bad idea.
I'm with Taylor. That was a pretty big drop this week, and it seems to be a trend.
ETA: EVERYDAY RAPTURE's avg. ticket price is pretty poor. I'm hoping there's an increase soon, what with the reviews and all.

I really hope NEXT FALL wins the Tony and gets a bump in B.O.

What a strange week, with American Idiot taking a big dip, also Everyday Rapture, Come Fly Away and La Cage also having a minor dip, but nothing out of the ordinary for this week grosses and these shows were loved by the critics.
On the other hand Promises, Promises and The Addams Family have still suffered from this weeks dip, but are still doing bloody well considering both were critic pans!!!!
You have to agree Hair has had a good run on Broadway?
Maybe if Ace were a front row dinger sales would increase.
Yikes! Why did American Idiot drop so low??
I'm not really surprised at the dip in sales... Shows get the most attendees on weekends, and this weekend there was the car bomb incident in Times Square, so I can't really blame people for deciding not to go see a show on Sunday after that. I feel like it has to be something like that since pretty much every show went down in percentage this week.

i'm pretty sure you're right.
i would also think it's a safe bet to say that the HAIR producers will try to ride the storm until the summer. if sales don't pick up 1-2 weeks into it, though...

Wouldn't the car bomb only have affected Sunday's performances (if any), though? Most of these shows only have a matinee that day, which doesn't really account for double-digit percentage drops. Even if people couldn't attend Saturday evening shows for which they had tickets, the tickets were already sold and would still be included in the week's grosses - and same for Sunday matinees, so the only lost sales would be day-of tickets for Sunday. Right?

And what about Saturday night- were they refunding tickets for people who couldn't get to the the theater or who were afraid to stick around?
PROMISES seems critics-proof at this stage.

rmusic11322, Hair's numbers were pretty bad with the old cast this year too, so I really don't think it's the cast that's the issue. If they're able to stay open till September, that would be a great run for the show.
Surprised by American Idiot's numbers.

Ouch "Hair" and "West Side Story!" "Hair" will probably last till September. This is also probably "West Side Story"s lowest gross. Very good week for "Promises, Promises!" Updated On: 5/3/10 at 05:04 PM
My feeling that American Idiot's target audience are not the ones who buy Broadway tickets might end up being true.

My feelings, (we all have our feelings, right?):
American Idiot, and rock musicals in general are more dependent on weekend nights. Same goes for Hair, which attracts a lot of the next gen. Early May is kind of busy with other things to begin with, and then with this bomb scare (which was well handled by NYPD!). Things should pick up soon.

Where have people heard rumours about Hair closing in September? I wanted to see it again when I go to NY in October, but do you think it will close before then? I definitely want to head back before it closes. Would July or August be safe?
People are assuming a September closing date as post-Labor day is a significant time for show closures (same with post-holidays). Most shows hold out till after a significant period of business (the summer, the holidays) so they can close with some substantial profit.
I'm sure that Hair will make it through the summer....maybe through September...or even as long as the date they are currently selling tickets (Mid Oct)

I thought Hair would make make it til Labor day then fall out, but these grosses lately are really bad. It has definitely lost money the last 3 weeks, possibly the last 4, though it probably was just above break even 4 weeks ago. If the numbers stay below $350K for the next two weeks, producers may decide not to even wait for summer.
If I had to bet, I'd still say it lasts through the summer, but it's looking fairly precarious right now, unless they don't mind burning up their entire cash cushion before giving up.

yep, and yet La Cages goes down again.
good point about Saturday night from JoeV.
The bomb scare is a huge reason most shows took a (big) dip for the week. Since it happened on a Saturday night, most shows played to around 50% as many people reported being able to move their seats to the orchestra. Several people reported some theaters being near empty, also. For a Saturday night, that hurts, but I believe all shows offered a refund and/or exchange.
