Why was there a drop in gross for Hello Dolly? Also, nice numbers for Groundhog Day. Let's hope they can keep it up.

I'm really pushing for the plays this season. Such a shame they have such low grosses.

Bandstand and Indecent are in particularly rough shape.

And Part 2 nearly doubles its gross (and, I believe, makes its nut)

I'm with you TheSassySam. I don't know how any of the plays are paying the bills. We already lost my favorite, Significant Other. I'm afraid they'll be more to come. If 8 Tony Nominations, including Best Play, can't bring A Doll's House, Part 2 over 37% Gross Potential, then I don't know.

Well, the Doll's House grosses are not even a week beyond their Tony noms. I'm not saying it's in great shape, but it clearly had an effect. At the very least, I can't see Rudin closing it before the Tonys, especially since it's a certain contender for at least a few awards, including Best Play.

What makes you so sure it's made its nut?

 

Nobody should be surprised by the numbers for Bandstand. It was always going to be a hard sell, and then it got basically no Tony nominations.

Good to see Groundhog Day and ADHP2 pick up some steam. Hope it grows as we get closer to Tony night. 

I think Bandstand is next for the chopping block. My guess is right after Tony night depending on if they can pick up anything.

Even if they do, it's not like Choreography or Orchestrations (both of which they could very easily lose) will sell tickets. The only effect the Tonys have had on this show is that they barely got any nominations- winning isn't really going to help the box office now.

Taking a closer look, though attendance went down for Bandstand, the grosses did increase by about 25k, and they've been climbing consistently for weeks. The grosses still aren't great, but they're at around 50% so they're hopefully at their nut.

Who'd have thought a true turkey like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would be so critic-proof? I'd have thought that word of mouth would do it in.

Agreed re Bandstand- taking a closer look, it is steadily increasing week to week and their ATP is way up. That may be a reflection on word of mouth with theater goers that do not really care about Tony Awards. 

On another note - ouch, School of Rock.

I don't think you can judge Charlie's popularity by who is going now. They had a lot of tickets purchased already before it opened and before the ratings....and that includes many school groups.

This was also their first week post-opening.

Meanwhile, my favorite show had a slight drop, but doing well overall.  I'm bummed that the national tour didn't have a stop in Texas, but I have seen Chicago at least once every year since I first saw it on St. Patrick's Day 2011.  I may have to return to NYC this coming December.  I really, really, really want to see "Hello Dolly". with the Divine Miss M.  I better start saving up now.

Yay Groundhog Day! I saw it on Saturday and the crowd was super into it (I loved it as well). I also saw Bandstand on Saturday night and the front mezz was fairly empty, but the rear mezz was pretty full, but for not a full house the crowd was also super into it. Almost full standing ovation after "Welcome Home"

Won't the key for Bandstand be a performance on The Tony Awards?  Assuning it's a good exciting performance, of course.  The Wedding Singer, for example, got a boost from its performance, although not enough, in the end, to sustain it.  It wasn't a huge boost - but it was a definite boost.  Wedding Singer Box Office  The bump happened after the broadcast - even though it had been nominated for Best Musical.  Its best regular weeks were those immediately following the broadcast.  (Its final week was its best week.)

BANDSTAND has been slowly inching higher each week. I'm interested to see if they can keep it going through the summer.
