A pretty lousy week across the board - was it the bad weather?
(Edited to add: Obviously shows like Ain't Too Proud and Hadestown are doing just fine, but there are very few shows that are NOT down from the previous week)

A bad week for any production not called Wicked or Network. It is really crushing to see Frankie and Johnny drop to such low attendance despite those solid reviews. Hadestown and Ain't Too Proud are holding steady, but Tootsie has fallen out of the Top 10, and Be More Chill fell below 50% of its potential...

What in the world are you looking at?
Unrelated random observation: Rudin spent more money on ads for his Tony nominated plays this week than they grossed collectively.

Remember the week before was Memorial Day weekend and that always tends to be busy for Broadway.

It was pretty much a typical post holiday week across the board. I do wonder though how the terrible weather on Wednesday and Thursday affected the new musicals and the bridge and Tunnel long runners. I had tickets to Beetlejuice on Thursday and honestly debating eating the tickets because of the weather.
It should also be noted that half of the typical bridge and tunnel crowd didn’t buy tickets this past weekend due to the Long Island railroad having extremely limited service that doubled and tripled the travel time of most commuters due to a bridge replacement.
With all that taken into account, I’d say the week wasn’t as bad as it could of been.

Either BMC shapes up in the next couple of weeks or it'll be closing shop by Labor Day.
Everything except the predictable (Mockingbird/Hamilton/Hadestown/ATP) is just not doing so hot. Woof.

I don't think that the bad weather had anything to do with the low grosses. This season did not produced one must see musical, there are many long run shows and a lot of shows that people don't want to shell out the big bucks for. Tourism is down about 6% so far this year which may not seem like a lot but could be a factor. It is obvious why Rudin is pulling the plug early on Glenda. Look for a slew of closing notices after the Tonys.

This statement is just plain false, Hadestown and Ain’t Too Proud are both doing exceptional business.

That's true, but the fact that people are forgetting about them is not a good sign. I expect that Hadestown and Ain't Too Proud will be the only 2018-19 musicals still around this time next year, but I doubt they will be long runners. Whether or not Tootsie joins them depends on if it can stabilise its recent sharp decline - If it holds at a million into autumn, it will survive, but if it drops to the level of Pretty Woman over the next few weeks, that will be a real problem. Tootsie seems like a victim of too much hype - it's $1.5 million was unlikely to hold very long, and I always thought it was hasty to rush into licensing and international rollout so quickly. The limitations of Tootsie (The lack of iconic songs, the problems with the source material, the generation gap between fans of the film and fans of Santino Fontana) were always going to drag it down to some extent, and its performance over the next few months will be a big test...

I think it is also just the time of year. Proms have and are happening and it is graduation time also.

Possibly. The rain was horrendous. But I saw a show on Thursday and I can't speak for the mezz but the orchestra was as full as you'd expect so I think people who had tickets made it. I'd guess that the shows that were hurt were ones that particularly rely on same day ticket sales.

Do you know that or are you just opining. I am hoping that you are correct, because I have friends who paid full price to see the show in July, and -- having seen it -- I am positive they will hate it. If it closes, they won't have to see it.

Just curious if that means tourism is down for NYC in general or for tourists buying Broadway tickets.

Posted: 6/4/19 at 9:26amWow, those numbers for King Lear are pretty bad no matter how you slice it, but they are especially disastrous when you consider the weekly cost of the labor. Isn’t it true that shows over 3 hours have to pay their crew overtime? That, plus it’s a large cast full of stage veterans who are likely making well above minimum. We have a whopping SEVEN actors above the title, at least 3 of whom can probably be considered a “name” to a greater or lesser extent.

yes you have to pay the crew overtime. I think right now on Broadway, King Lear & Ferryman pay their stage and house crew overtime since both plays are over 3 hours.

I'm pretty sure "overtime" means after 11:PM, that's why those shows start an hour earlier.

Considering it made 23% of its gross potential and was the lowest-grossing show on Broadway last week, YES, that's very poor business. Nathan Lane & George Wolfe & co don't work for minimum, and it has a whole (spoiler??) ensemble. It's got to cost between 400-500 per week to run, + the capitalization couldn't have been cheap with those designs.

BMC still had lots of seats for the matinee today only around 60% sold and the same for the week moving forward tons of seat avail for all shows...not looking good. I don't see it lasting after summer!
