But with the large cast and high weekly running costs on CATS, would the smaller Circle in the Square given them enough seats to sell to actually make their weekly nut? 1186 vs 840 seats is quite a difference... sometimes a smaller venue doesn't work from an economic standpoint for a musical like this.

I always understood that CITS didn’t have sufficient backstage space for the show. Otherwise, I wholeheartedly agree that it would have been the theater that best showed off the production.
